Skidmore completes weekend sweep with 3-2 win at UMASS Boston

Boston, Mass.—Tyler Doremus scored 3:49 into overtime to lift the Skidmore College hockey team to a 3-2 ECAC East win at UMASS  Boston on Saturday. 

 

With the win, Skidmore remains in second place in the East with a 6-3 league and 7-8 overall record. The Beacons fall to 3-5-1 and 6-6.

 

After a scoreless first period. Matt Czerkowicz put the Thoroughbreds in front at 17:14 with his fourth of the season from Doremus and Nick Dupuis.  The Beacons tied it 22 seconds later, but Dupuis found the net at 19:58 from Sasha Thomas and Brendan Cottam.

 

UMB tied it up 2-2 with a power-play goal at 4:01 of the third.

 

The Beacons dominated early in the OT, but Thoroughbred goalie Colin Bessey recorded five of his 29 saves to keep Skidmore alive until Doremus scored his unassisted goal.

 

The Thoroughbreds host Amherst on Jan. 22.
