Thoroughbreds go 3-1 at Union Invite

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Skidmore College senior Libero Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.) recorded her 3,000 career dig and the Thoroughbreds went 3-1 Friday and Saturday at the Union College Invitational.

The Thoroughbreds opened with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-9) win over Elms College 3-0. Meredith Palmer (Montvale, NJ) had 12 kills, six blocks and a 0.429 hitting pct. for Skidmore. Junior setter Becca Ormsby (Charlton, N.Y.) added 10 assists and five aces.

Dinsdale hit the 3,000 dig mark in the team's 3-0 (29-27, 25-12, 25-12) win against Hartwick. She had 23 digs in the match to become the second Skidmore player and eighth player in NCAA Division III history reach 3,000 digs. Also contributing to the win were Palmer with 17 kills, a .364 hitting pct., and four blocks and freshman setter Mallory Mendelsohn (San Francisco, Calif.) who had 25 assists and nine digs

On Saturday, Skidmore defeated Union 3-2 (25-20, 12-25, 25-17, 24-26, 15-8). Palmer was key again with 16 kills and four blocks. Dinsdale had 39 digs and Kelly Vershbow (Washington, D.C.) had a double/double with 11 kills and 11 digs.. Mendelsohn added 28 assists and four aces, while Carolyn Botelier (Washington, D.C.) had 13 kills and two blocks.

In the final match, Vassar ended the Thoroughbred streak with a 3-0 (23-25, 14-25, 20-25). Palmer remained consistent with 11 kills and two blocks, while Dinsdale registered 19 digs.

Skidmore (5-3) will host Cazenovia on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
