Henniker, N.H.— Babson College held on for a 3-2 win over Skidmore College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference East semifinals played Friday afternoon at New England College.
The Thoroughbreds end the season at 13-10-3, while Babson (12-13-1) advances to Saturday's championship game against New England College or UMASS Boston.
Joe Melnyk (Rotterdam, NY) gave the Thoroughbreds a 1-0 lead when he scored on a rebound at 14:18 from Tyler Doremus (Aspen, CO) and Steve Keady (Canton, MA). The Beavers tied it up at 18:39 when Terry Woods scored his 14th goal of the season from Corey Griffin.
In the second period, Skidmore withstood 19 Babson shots before Jason Schneider got one by Colin Bessey (Montclair, NJ) at 18:04 to make it 2-1. The Beavers had a 20-4 shot advantage in the period.
Schneider scored his second of the game at 6:48 of the third when he worked his way through the Thoroughbred defense for the 3-1 lead. Senior Ted Gowan (Hamilton, NY) kept Skidmore in the game with his sixth goal of the season at 12:40. The Thoroughbreds had several chances down the stretch, but Babson held on for the one-goal win.
Bessey finished with 32 saves, while Andrew Peabody had 16 saves for the Beavers.
