Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College hockey team sent its senior class out with a 7-1 win over St. Michael's College in an ECAC East contest Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink.
The victory keeps the Thoroughbreds in the hunt for playoff home ice with two games to play. Skidmore is 11-9-2 overall and 7-8-2 in the ECAC East. St. Michael's falls to 7-13-2 and 2-12-1.
The Thoroughbreds dominated the game from the start, jumping out to a 4-0 first period lead.
Tyler Doremus (Aspen, Colo./New England Huskies) opened the scoring with a breakaway goal at 10:28.
Steve Keady (Canton, Mass./Thayer Acad.) made it 2-0 at 12:10 with a wrap-around score at 12:10.
Brett Bandazian (Wyckoff, N.J.) scored 15 seconds later for a 3-0 lead and made it 4-0 with his second goal at 17:46.
The second period was all Skidmore with
Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.J./Loomis Chaffee),
Joe Melnyk (Rotterdam, N.Y./CD Selects), and
Sasha Thomas (Gatineau, Quebec/Winchendon) all scoring.
St. Michael's got on the board at 1:03 of the third when Nicholas Sheehan tallied his fourth goal of the year.
Keady and Ferri each had a pair of assists to finish with three points each.
Nick Dupuis (Holyoke, Mass./Springfield Falcons) and
Mike Gibbons (Braintree, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) had contributed two assists each.
Skidmore goalie
Colin Bessey (Montclair, N.J./Trinity Pawling) had 30 saves in net in 56 minutes of play, while
John Bienkowski (Lexington, Mass./Hoosac School) had three saves in the final four minutes. Brendan Rimmer had 32 saves for the Purple Knights.
The Thoroughbreds close out the regular season on the road next weekend at Trinity on Feb. 20 and Wesleyan on Feb. 21.
