Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College hockey team battled 13th ranked Norwich University to a 3-3 overtime tie Friday night in an ECAC East contest.  The Thoroughbreds are 10-9-2 overall and 6-8-2 in the East, while the Cadets continue to lead the East with a 9-4-3 league record and 11-6-4 overall mark.

After a scoreless first period, Norwich took a 2-0 lead on a power-play goal by Steve Coon (Berne, N.Y./RIT) at 2:55 and an even-strength goal by Tim Houston (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) at 11:58.  Skidmore broke through at 19:12  with an Anthony Ferri (Jersey City, N.J./Loomis Chaffee) power-play goal from Nick Dupuis (Holyoke, Mass./Springfield Falcons).

The Thoroughbreds wasted no time in the third when Teddy Gowan (Hamilton, N.Y./Westminster) tied the game just 16 seconds in from Chris Webb (Holliston, Mass./New England Huskies) and Brett Bandazian (Wyckoff, N.J./Baystate Breakers).  Mike Gibbons (Braintree, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) gave Skidmore a 3-2 lead when he put home a rebound at 10:55 from Ferri and Sasha Thomas (Gatineau, Quebec/Winchendon).

With goalie Ryan Klingensmith (Morton, Pa./Philadelphia Jr. Flyers) on the bench, Norwich tied it when defenseman Owen Carpino (Nashua, N.H.) scored his first goal of the season off a quick pass from ECAC East scoring leader Nikita Kashirsky (Moscow, Russia/Walpole Stars) at 19:37.

The Thoroughbreds had the only two shots in the overtime, but Klingensmith handled both to finish with 20 saves.  Skidmore goalie Colin Bessey had 23 saves, including 11 in the third period.

The Thoroughbreds play their final regular-season home game on Saturday at 4 p.m. against St. Michael's. The Cadets are at Castleton State.
