BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin College held off Skidmore College for a 1-0 hockey win, Friday night. The win, improves the Polar Bears to 4-0-0 this season the Thoroughbreds drop to 3-3-0 overall and 2-1 in ECAC East/NESCAC play.
Bowdoin's Richard Nerland made 28 saves for the shutout, while Skidmore goalie
Colin Bessey was outstanding as well, making 34 stops, including several acrobatic saves, to keep the Thoroughbreds close.
The Polar Bears' lone goal came in the first period as a cross-ice pass from Robert Toczylowski set up Kyle Shearer-Hardy on the far post, who wristed home the game-winning goal at 11:39.
The Thoroughbreds had a great chance to tie the score early in the second frame, when
Tim Daley one-timed a shot from just outside the crease that Bowdoin's Richard Nerland was able to sweep aside. Later in the frame, Nerland stopped a breakaway from Skidmore's
Alex Radmin to maintain the one-goal advantage after two periods.
Skidmore is at Colby on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.
