Oneonta, N.Y.—The Skidmore College volleyball team beat RIT 3-0 (25-19, 27-25, 25-21) to finish third in the SUNY Oneonta Red Dragon Invitational.
The Thoroughbreds went 3-1 in the tournament to improve to 13-4.
In the first match, Skidmore beat MCLA 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-19). Kelley Vershbow had 10 kills, while Becca Ormsby (Charlton, N.Y.) had a double/double with 30 assists and 10 digs. Sam Friedman added 9 kills and six digs.
Skidmore the posted an easy 3-0 (25-10, 25-12, 25-19) win over Plattsburgh. Vershbow had 19 kills and a .607 hitting pct., while Ormsby controlled the offense again with 38 assists. Friedman had a team-high 16 digs.
The Thoroughbreds then had an eight-match win streak snapped by Springfield 3-1 (18-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-25). Meredith Palmer had 10 kills and four blocks and Lauren Dinsdale had 17 digs. Ormsby contributed 18 assists and seven digs.
In the third-place match, Ormsby earned all-tournament honors with 26 assists and three aces. Dinsdale had 27 digs and Palmer had 10 kills and eight blocks.
Skidmore will play in the Union College Invitational on Oct. 9.
