Rutland, Vt.-- Freshman goaltender Andrew Ross had 30 saves including three in the final minute of regulation to lead the Skidmore College hockey team to a 3-2 win over Castleton in ECAC East hockey action, Tuesday night.
The 6-3 Thoroughbreds move into a tie for second in the ECAC East with a 3-2 league mark. The Spartans fall to 1-4 and 5-6.
Skidmore jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Hunter Thayer and Alex Mykolenko. Castleton got one back early in the second on Jason Lavender's power-play goal at 1:36. Thayer and Brett Bandazian set-up Phil McDavitt for his first goal of the season at 9:44 of the second to make it 3-1.
The Spartans pulled within one on Omar Pacha's power-play goal at 13:26, but the Thoroughbred defense was able shut Castleton down over the final 6:34 for the win.
Skidmore is at Williams College on Friday at 7 p.m.
