Skidmore men complete weekend sweep with 64-45 win over Vassar

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team completed a weekend sweep of Liberty League opponents with a 64-45 win over Vassar College Saturday at the Sports and Recreation Center. 

The Thoroughbreds are now 2-5 in conference play and 7-11 overall, with the Brewers (7-11, 2-5 Liberty) falling to an identical record.

An evenly-played first-half featured six lead changes and ended with Skidmore ahead by three after a Jon Douglas (Shutesbury, Mass.) lay-up with five seconds left in the half. 

In the second half, Skidmore held a two point lead, 47-45, with 4:22 left to play before it went on a 17-0 run, helped by shooting 10-11 from the free-throw line, to end the contest at 64-45.  Sophomore Jeff Altimar (Medfield, Mass.) hit four of the 10 Thoroughbred free-throws during the span and finished with six points and nine rebounds.

Skidmore held a hefty 41-29 rebounding advantage in the contest and shot a smooth 40.7% (22-54) from the field, while hitting 16-18 (88.9%) from the charity stripe. 

Douglas finished with 16 points and six rebounds for the Thoroughbreds.  Freshman Terron Victoria (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) chipped in 12 points and four assists.

Senior Matt Nunn (Lower Gwynedd, Pa.) had 21 points and was 8-10 from the field to lead the Brewers.

Skidmore will continue Liberty League action at Union on Feb. 3.
