UMass Boston downs Skidmore, 4-0

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The UMass Boston Beacons scored three third-period goals to skate to a 4-0 ECAC East win over Skidmore College Friday night at the Saratoga City Ice Rink. 

The Beacons improve to 7-9-2 and 3-8-1 in the ECAC East.  Skidmore drops to 9-8-0 and 5-7-0 in conference play. 

After a scoreless first period, Beacon sophomore Vinnie Jacona (East Stroudsburg, Pa.) put the visitors ahead when he came from behind the net to score for the 1-0 lead at 7:39 in the second period. 

The UMass Boston defense held off Skidmore momentum near the end of the second period when they killed three straight power plays and were a man down the last 6:47 of the stanza, holding the Thoroughbreds scoreless.

The Beacons came out firing in the third as freshman Chris Wyman (Bartlett, Ill.) scored 2:33 into the period from John Hubbard (Arlington, Texas) and Anthony Fitti (Havertown, Pa.) to extend the lead to two.
 
Sophomore Eric Tufman (Abington, Pa.) picked up his seventh goal of the season at 13:36 when he rebounded a shot from sophomore Matt Atsoff (Macomb, Mich.) for the third UMass Boston goal. 

Junior Kris Kranzky scored an empty-net goal with 1:01 left to play to seal the 4-0 win.

Beacon freshman Kevin Bendel (Denville, N.J.) had a solid game in the net for the visitors, picking up 40 saves in his second win of the season.  Andrew Ross (McKinney, Texas)  finished with 10 saves for the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore will continue league action Saturday when it faces Babson College at 4 p.m.
