Alex Mykolenko scored with 53 seconds left in overtime to lift visiting Skidmore College to a 3-2 win against Hamilton College in a NESCAC/ECAC East men's ice hockey crossover game played at Russell Sage Rink on Jan. 23.
Brett Bandazian and
Phil McDavitt were credited with assists on Mykolenko's sixth goal this season. Bandazian leads Skidmore (9-6-0 overall, 5-5 ECAC East) with 11 assists. Hamilton (6-8-1, 5-5-0 NESCAC) dropped to 0-1-1 in overtime games this season.
The Thoroughbreds grabbed a 1-0 lead at 9:55 of the first period when
Sasha Thomas scored his third goal. Travis Blood tied the score with a power-play goal at 12:01. The Continentals went 1-for-5 with the extra skater and killed all five Skidmore opportunities.
Joe Buicko gave Hamilton a 2-1 lead with his seventh goal at 8:17 of the second period. The lead held up until the Thoroughbreds'
Matt Czerkowicz put the puck in the back of the net for his fourth goal with 5:08 left in the third period.
Skidmore held a 44-32 advantage in shots, including 18-9 in the third period.
Andrew Ross made 30 saves (two in overtime) for the Thoroughbreds. Scott Hefferman stopped 41 shots for the Continentals.
The Thoroghbreds are at Amherst on Saturday.
