Williamstown, Mass.—The Skidmore College volleyball team continued its hot play with a 3-1 weekend and second place finish at the Williams College Invitational. The Thoroughbreds improve to 16-5.
Skidmore ran off consecutive 3-0 wins over Westfield State (25-10, 25-11, 25-14) and Hamilton (25-6, 25-15, 25-19) before an exciting 3-2 win over SUNY Oneonta (22-25, 25-13, 25-20, 23-25, 15-7) that set-up a championship match with host Williams.
The Ephs won the first game 25-20, but the Thoroughbreds battled back to win the second 25-13. Williams then hung on for a tight 25-21 win in the third game and a 25-22 win in the fourth for the 3-1 win.
Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.) was named to the All-Tournament Team. During the Oneonta match, Dinsdale surpassed 2,500 career digs (now 2,552), She had a 102 digs in the four matches.
Also for the Thoroughbreds
Becca Ormsby (Charlton, N.Y.) surpassed 2,500 career assists (now 2,535). During the Williams match,
Erica Duncan (San Francisco, Calif.) went over 2,000 career kills (now 2,011).
Against Westfield,
Murray Koch (Palo Alto, Calif.) had 11 kills and a 0.550 hitting percentage. Ormsby had 29 assists and
Kelley Vershbow (Washington, D.C. had 12 kills and a 0.385 hitting percentage.
In the Hamilton win, Duncan compiled a double/double with 17 kills and 10 digs. Koch added 11 kills and Ormsby had 35 assists.
Leading the team in the Oneonta win were Duncan with another double/double of 15 kills and 11 digs, Koch with 20 kills and 13 digs, Dinsdale with 32 digs, Ormsby with 55 assists, and
Meredith Palmer with 11 kills and three blocks.
Duncan and Koch compiled double/doubles against Williams. Duncan had 17 kills and 18 digs, while Koch had 12 kills and 18 digs. Dinsdale had 35 digs and Vershbow added 11 kills and three blocks. Ormsby had 42 assists.
Skidmore is at the Union College Invitational on Oct. 10.
