Volleyball takes second at Liberty Challenge

Schenectady, N.Y.--  The Skidmore College volleyball team went 3-1 to finish second at the Liberty Challenge played Oct. 10-11 at Union College. 

The Thoroughbreds opened with a 3-1 loss to tournament champion Union (23-25, 26-24, 25-14, 25-20) and then came back to win three straight, beating SUNY Potsdam 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-23), Ithaca 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 25-11), and Hartwick 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-12).

Senior Erica Duncan outside hitter (San Francisco, Calif.) was selected to the All-Tournament team after averaging 4.64 kills and 3.29 digs per game.

Against Union, Duncan had 17 kills and 15 digs.  Murray Koch (Palo Alto, Calif) added 16 kills and Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.)  had 21 digs.  Setter Becca Ormsby (Charlton, N.Y.) contributed 43 assists.

In the Potsdam sweep, Koch had a double/double with 11 kills and 11 digs., Ormsby had 34 assists and Duncan chipped in 18 kills.

In the Ithaca win,  Duncan had 15 kills and 15 digs.  Dinsdale had 29 digs and Meredith Palmer (Montvale, N.J.) added 12 kills and five blocks.

Against Hartwick, Duncan had another double/double with 15 kills and 13 digs.  Dinsdale had 17 digs and Koch added 12 kills.

Skidmore, 19-6, will play at the Wellesley Tournament Oct. 17-18.
