LL Performers of the Week 2024

Men’s tennis sweeps Liberty League awards; 4 Thoroughbreds on Honor Roll

TROY, N.Y. – The Skidmore men's tennis team picked up a pair of weekly Liberty League awards. Griffin Biernat was named the Liberty League Singles Performer of the Week, and the duo of Fletcher King and Nika Mori was selected as the Liberty League Doubles Team of the Week. Additionally, four Skidmore student-athletes from four different teams were recognized on the Honor Roll for the week ending Oct. 6.
 
Griffin Biernat (Sr., Columbus, Ohio) – Liberty League Men's Tennis Singles Performer of the Week
As part of a dominant victory over Bard on Saturday, Biernat shut out his opponent at No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-0. He also claimed victory at No. 1 doubles by a 6-0 margin. For the day, he won each of the 18 games he played.
 
Fletcher King/Nika Mori – Liberty League Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
King and Mori cruised to a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles against Bard on Saturday as part of a 6-1 Skidmore win over the Raptors. Later, Mori worked a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, and King was closing in on a win at No. 1 singles when he retired due to injury.
 
Gillian Maher (#21, Sr., D, Pearl River, New York) – Liberty League Field Hockey Honor Roll
Maher started and turned in full 60-minute efforts in both games for Skidmore last week anchoring the defense. The highlight of the week included a 4-0 shutout win over Rensselaer on Saturday, in which Maher recorded her third defensive save of the year. Maher and the defense successfully defended eight RPI corners, and 12 including Wednesday's game at Hartwick.
 
Natalie Pedersen (#7, Fy., RS, Rochester, New York) – Liberty League Women's Volleyball Honor Roll
In two matches, Pedersen tallied 22 kills (3.14/set) and a .241 hitting percentage in a weekend split for the Thoroughbreds. On Saturday at Union, Pedersen finished with a season high 15 kills and five digs.
 
Abby Lewis (#20, F, East Greenwich, Rhode Island) – Liberty League Women's Soccer Honor Roll
Lewis scored both goals for Skidmore in a 2-1 road win at Vassar on Saturday. She got the scoring started with a goal in the fifth minute and then broke a 1-1 tie before the first half was over with her sixth goal of the year in the 35th minute, which served as the game winner.
 
Will Devall (#1, Jr., GK, Shoreham, New York) – Liberty League Men's Soccer Honor Roll
Devall surrendered just one goal in two games for Skidmore in a 0-1-1 week, which included a scoreless tie at Clarkson on Wednesday, where he made one save. He saw a far greater volume on Saturday against #20 Vassar, where he made a career high 11 saves. Devall finished the week with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
