Gail Cummings-Danson took over the Skidmore College athletic program in June of 2005.
During her tenure at Skidmore, Cummings-Danson has overseen the construction of the new softball and field hockey fields and the resurfacing of Wachenhiem Field. The 19-team athletics program has also grown with the addition of several new coaching and support staff positions and the creation of the Thoroughbred Society to honor student athletes with grade point averages of 3.67 or higher.Â
In addition to athletics responsibilities, she oversees Skidmore's physical activity program.
Prior to Skidmore, Cummings-Danson was a member of the athletic department at The University at Albany for 11 years, where she helped manage UAlbany’s intercollegiate program. She was interim director of athletics and recreation at the university from May 1999 to August 2000, which was Albany's first year as a Division I institution. Cummings-Danson was deeply involved in Albany's transition from Division II to Division I.  She held positions of increasing responsibility at UAlbany, including serving a year as assistant vice president for student affairs.
Prior to joining UAlbany, Cummings-Danson was assistant director of athletics at Temple University and earlier was assistant athletic director for business and head women’s lacrosse coach at Connecticut College. She also coached lacrosse at Temple and UAlbany.
Cummings-Danson was selected to the U.S. National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Canadian National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2008.
Cummings-Danson was named ECAC Female Administrator of the Year for 1999-2000. She has served on a number of NCAA committees and also has been active in the America East Conference, where her responsibilities included service on the senior women’s administrative committee and the championship committee. In addition, she served a term on the ECAC Executive Council and its eligibility and infractions committee.
She is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletic Administrators and the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Association.
A native of Huntsville, Ontario, Cummings-Danson was an All-American attack on the 1988 Division I national champion lacrosse team at Temple University, where she earned a B.S. degree in physical education, a master of education degree in athletic administration, and a doctor of education degree in sports management.Â
She resides in Clifton Park with her husband and two children
