    Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach
Sophie Spencer was named the Skidmore College women's lacrosse assistant coach in June, 2026.

Spencer joins the Thoroughbreds following a successful playing career at Quinnipiac University, where she was a versatile midfielder and key contributor to one of the most successful stretches in program history. A Second Team All-MAAC selection, she helped lead the Bobcats to a MAAC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance while earning MAAC All-Academic Team honors and recognition as a Quinnipiac Scholar Athlete. As a senior, she led the team in shooting percentage, scoring 14 goals on 29 shots.

"We are thrilled to welcome Sophie to our staff," said Ghilardi. "Throughout the hiring process, she impressed everyone she met with her enthusiasm for coaching, strong work ethic, and genuine commitment to the student-athlete experience. Her energy, leadership, and passion for the game will make an immediate impact on our program."

In addition to earning her bachelor's degree in marketing, Spencer completed her MBA at Quinnipiac before beginning a career in sales and business development. Her professional experience helped develop skills in communication, relationship building, organization, and problem-solving that will translate directly to coaching and mentoring student-athletes.

Spencer has also remained active in the sport through coaching positions with Saratoga Youth Lacrosse, Nor'Easter Lacrosse, and Team 203 Lacrosse, gaining valuable experience working with players at various levels.

At Skidmore, Spencer will oversee recruiting efforts, coach the draw unit, and work closely with the Thoroughbreds' defensive group while contributing across all aspects of the program.

"Sophie brings a unique combination of playing experience, coaching knowledge, and professional leadership skills," Ghilardi said. "She is a tremendous fit for our culture, and we are excited to welcome her to the Skidmore women's lacrosse family."
