Lester Jordan Award
Bill Jones is in his 41st year in the athletic communications field, including 40 years as the Senior Athletic Communications Manager at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

He has been responsible for the publicity of nearly 4000 student-athletes, including more than 226 all-Americans, 25 CSC Academic All-Americans, 11 national championship teams, and 89 conference championship teams.

Jones oversaw the creation of SkidmoreAthletics.com and its four redesigns.
Â
An original member of the Friends of Skidmore Athletics Hall of Fame Selection Committee, he has helped selected each of the 19 classes. Â Â

Jones received his B.A. in 1983 from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He started in the sports information field as a student intern in the Plattsburgh State Sports Information office in 1982 and was hired as the Plattsburgh SID right after his graduation.

The move to Skidmore came in 1984 when he was hired as sports information coordinator and special events assistant. After one year, the position became full time sports information.

Jones is a 41-year member of the College Sports Communicators and the East-Comm (Eastern Athletic Communications Association).

He was inducted into the
CSC Hall of Fame in 2018 and received the 2020
Lester Jordan Award for exemplary service to the Academic All-America program.

In 2011, Jones received East-Comm Pete Nevins Award for Distinguished Achievement for his advancement in the field of athletic communications and advocacy for intercollegiate athletics.
Â
Jones was honored by East-Comm in 2004 with the Irving T. Marsh College Division Award for exhibiting excellence in the field of sports information.

A past president of East-Comm, Jones served seven years on its board of directors. He was the East-Comm workshop chairman and host for the 1995, 2001, and 2008 events held in Saratoga Springs.

A member of the CSC Academic All-America Committee since 1992, Jones has been a national coordinator since 2001. He served on the CSC computer committee from 1987-1991. Jones has been part of 22 CSC and East-Comm panel and table topic presentations.

In addition to his work at Skidmore, Jones was the media coordinator for the New York State Public High School and Federation Boys Championship Basketball Tournaments from 1987-1992, receiving the 1992 NYSPHAA Service Award.

Active in the community, Jones is a past president of the Saratoga High School Hockey Booster Club. He was a member of the Division Street Elementary School Shared Decision Making Team and is a past president of the school’s Parent Teacher Association. He served on the Saratoga Youth Hockey Board of Directors and has been involved in both youth hockey and Little League baseball in various volunteer roles, including all-star coach. He received the 2001 Saratoga County Convention and Tourism Bureau Hometown Hero Award for hosting the East-Comm workshops.

Jones is a native of Elmira, N.Y. and a graduate of Elmira Southside High School. He lives in Saratoga Springs with his wife Vicky. He has two sons. Zack is a Skidmore alum and works in Manhattan, while Ryan is a Syracuse University grad who also works in Manhattan.
