Skidmore Rowing Recruiting Information

Thank you for your interest in Skidmore College Rowing. We are a values-based, competitive varsity team, and our ultimate goal every year is to win a National Championship. Our process goal to achieve that is to have athletes who work hard, improve, and are great teammates. If you are going to successfully row at Skidmore, you need to be willing to strive for excellence in the Classroom, as a person, and on the Water!

Please find our recruiting profile below. We believe that by finding athletes who can meet these standards, we will have individuals on our team who can help us achieve our goals.

Priority #1: Academic Performance
• Priority 1A is your academics. We seek individuals who will excel in the classroom and represent the best of Skidmore rowing while there. Your transcripts are critical. We encourage a challenging course load with several APs and at least a 3.3 GPA. However, don’t rule yourself out if you had a rough first year or your school doesn’t offer APs. To assess academic success, the head coach will request a pre-read through admissions, one of the first tasks you'll complete.

Priority #2: Character Reference
• We only want individuals of good character on our team. We seek people who understand the difference between right and wrong, help others in need, and are positive influences in the greater Skidmore Community. To determine this, we request 2 character references. These references focus on attitude in the face of failure, teamwork, attendance, work ethic, and classroom performance. We are confident that with the right individuals doing the right things, we will achieve our goals and objectives.

Priority #3: Boat Moving Potential
• Read these words carefully, as they are chosen with great consideration. We assess athletes for their potential. Have they been rowing for a long time or just a season? Do they play multiple sports or focus solely on rowing? Do they row a single? Have they had on-water success? What is their erg score, and how does it compare to the team average? How does their performance compare to that of their peers? Does their junior team have a large or small roster? All these factors contribute to what we call "Boat Moving Potential." When evaluating an athlete, we ask, "Can they achieve a 7:15 (women)/6:15 (men) erg score by their senior year of college?"

If you believe you can excel academically, possess good character, and have the potential to move a boat, we'd love to learn more about you. Start by completing the recruit questionnaire [Linked]. Thank you for your interest!
