CHESTER, PA – The Skidmore College women's soccer team wrapped up its season-opener road trip with a scoreless draw against Widener on Saturday afternoon.
Led by a stellar five-save shutout from junior goalkeeper
Sophia Sayers, the Thoroughbreds (0-1-1) recorded their first clean sheet of the season. Offensively, Skidmore generated seven shots and two corner kicks but were unable to find the breakthrough against a strong defensive effort by the Pride (2-0-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sayers made her first save of the match in the third minute, turning away a Widener attempt headed toward the bottom center of the net.
- In the 38th minute, junior Olivia Chandler registered Skidmore's first shot on goal with a deep strike from outside the box that required a leaping effort from the Pride goalkeeper to keep out.
- Sayers continued to hold Widener off the board in the second half, making three more saves in the 51st, 63rd and 83rd minutes to preserve the scoreless deadlock.
- Chandler generated Skidmore's final scoring opportunity in the 88th minute with another long-range attempt, but the shot toward the bottom-left corner was handled by the Widener goalkeeper.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Sayers' five-save clean sheet marked the first solo shutout of her collegiate career.
- Chandler finished with a team-high two shots on goal.

Skidmore will host Oneonta next Saturday for the home opener at Wachenheim Field. The start time is set for noon.
