SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – A 15th-minute goal from senior
Abby Lewis proved pivotal as the Skidmore College women's soccer team battled St. Lawrence to a 1-1 draw in the Liberty League home opener at Wachenheim Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Thoroughbreds (2-2-2, 0-1-1 Liberty League) controlled the first half, building a 9-1 advantage in shots and taking all four of the half's corner kicks. However, the Saints (3-1-4, 0-0-1 Liberty League) responded after halftime, holding an 11-5 edge in shots and finding the equalizer in the 83rd minute.

Sophia Sayers made six saves, all in the second half, to help Skidmore secure the draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore applied pressure early, with senior Ellianna Caporusso and junior Olivia Chandler putting shots on goal in the second and 11th minutes.
- Chandler lofted a pass to Lewis in the 15th minute. Lewis worked around a defender and sent a shot past the goalkeeper to give Skidmore the lead.
- Sophomore Bryn Ryan had two shots blocked inside the box following a Skidmore corner in the 27th minute.
- Sayers made four saves between the 50th and 75th minutes to keep the Saints scoreless.
- St. Lawrence equalized in the 83rd minute when Zoe Rogan's shot from the right side sailed over Sayers' outstretched hands and into the far side of the net.
- Sayers added saves in the 88th and 90th minutes to preserve the tie.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Lewis scored her third goal of the season and 19th of her career.
- Chandler recorded her first assist of the season and fifth of her career.
- Ryan led Skidmore with five shots.
