Thoroughbreds clinch fourth seed with sweep of Bombers

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's tennis team closed out the 2026 regular season with an emphatic 7-0 sweep of Ithaca at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds (5-13, 5-3 Liberty League) cruised through doubles play with three match victories to secure the doubles point, then swept singles action to shut out the Bombers (5-11, 1-7 Liberty League). With the win, Skidmore officially clinched the fourth seed in next weekend's Liberty League Tournament.

"Good way to finish the regular season. This team has been working extremely hard and has been pushed all season with a ton of tough matches. We've missed out on a few results, but we kept moving forward," said head coach Curt Speerschneider. "I think we're a very dangerous team going into the postseason because of that. It's anyone's tournament, and we're going to put up a good battle to try to reclaim our title. We're peaking at the right time."
