Reed captures gold in 1650 free on final day of Liberty League Championships for Skidmore

ITHACA, NY – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams saved their best for the final day of the 2026 Liberty League Championships, as junior Sabrina Reed captured the women's 1650 freestyle title — becoming the program's first individual women's event champion since the meet became a season-ending championship — to headline five podium finishes and five program records on Saturday.

The Skidmore women shined beyond Reed's golden swim, by securing one silver medal performance in the 200 back in addition to a pair of bronze medal swims in the 100 free and 400 free relay. The Thoroughbreds also re-set the record books in four different events.

On the men's side, Skidmore saw one individual podium finisher alongside a relay podium performance. In addition to breaking the program record in the 200 breast, the Thoroughbreds also produced four B-Finalists in addition to three C-Finalists.

The Skidmore women secured the best finish in program history at the Liberty League Championships after placing third with 1032.5 points scored, while the Skidmore men finished the championship weekend in sixth place with 630.5 points as a team.

CHAMPIONSHIP MEET OVERVIEW
  • Through four days of competition, the Thoroughbreds crowned one event champion in the women's 1650 free, and five runner-up finishes in the women's 200 IM, 500 Free, 200 medley relay, 800 free relay and 200 back.
  • In total, Skidmore had 27 podium finishes, and broke a dozen program records in the process.
PODIUM FINISHERS
  • In the women's 1650 free, Sabrina Reed swam the top-time of 17:49.51 during the morning session—and breaking her own program record set last year in the process—which proved good enough to hold off the evening's "fast" heat to claim the Liberty League crown.
  • In the women's 100 free A-Final, junior Kelly Hsu claimed a bronze-medal finish after touching in a time of 52.11, besting her own 2025 program record in the process. The junior touched in with the fourth-fastest time in the morning prelims at 52.31.
  • In the women's 200 back A-Final, junior Jae Mason took home a silver finish after clocking in with the runner-up time of 2:05.19, which shattered the previous mark set of 2:08.49 by herself during the morning prelims.
  • In the men's 200 breast A-Final, freshman Jaz Liotta placed seventh with a time of 2:06.37. The first year touched in the third-fastest morning prelims time of 2:05.26, which broke the previous program record mark of 2:05.85 set by Liam Keating in 2025.
  • In the men's 400 free relay, the Skidmore quartet of Thomas Gaughan, Henry Brien, Liotta and Jonah Vaynshtok placed sixth with a combined time of 3:12.17.
  • In the women's 400 free relay, the Thoroughrbeds quartet of Faye Mooney, Gretchen Gwitt, Emelia Lan and Hsu placed third with a record-setting time of 3:33.15.
MEN'S POINTS SCORERS
  • In the 1650 free, sophomore Lachlan Hartshorn finished 14th with a time of 17:14.67, while freshman Luka Splendidio placed 17th after touching in 17:31.95
  • In the 100 free B-Finals, junior Jonah Vaynshtok finished third with a time of 47.22. Vaynshtok swam a time of 47.41 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 100 free C-Finals, junior Henry Brien placed eighth in a swim of 49.83. The Junior clocked in with a time of 49.81 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 200 back B-Final, senior Brandon Lis finished second with a time of 1:55.92 and freshman Graham Mahoney placed right after him with the third-best time of 1:56.13. The senior recorded a time of 1:58.61 in the morning prelim, while the first year touched in a time of 1:56.87 during the morning session.
  • In the 200 breast B-Final, junior Aidan Darling tied with Union's Brayden Green for fourth with a time of 2:11.58. The junior clocked a time of 2:10.70 in the morning prelims.
  • In the 200 breast C-Final, freshman Josiah Leese placed third with a time of 2:18.31, while fellow first year Oliver Merkner took seventh in 2:28.94. Leese swam a time of 2:19.28 in the morning session, while Merkner touched in a time of 2:27.64 in the morning prelims.
WOMEN'S POINTS SCORERS
  • In the 1650 free, freshman Arianna Matthews placed 11th with a time of 18:31.75, while fellow first year Laurel Halfman clocked a time of 18:39.02 for 14th place. Freshman Lily Splendido touched in 19th with a swim of 19:59.36.
  • In the 100 free C-Final, junior Faye Mooney placed first with a time of 54.22. The junior touched in a time of 54.31 during the morning prelims.
  • Also competing in the C-Final, senior Lydia Walker touched in sixth at 56.01. The senior recorded a time of 56.44 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 200 back B-Final, senior Ginny Hunt finished second with a time of 2:09.36. The senior narrowly missed out on a A-Final bid after finishing with the ninth-best swim of 2:09.34 in the morning prelims.
  • In the 200 breast B-Final, freshman Emelia Lan finished fourth with a time of 2:34.54. The first year clocked in with a time of 2:33.71 in the morning prelims.
  • Also competing in the B-Final, junior Katherine Manaresi placed eighth in a time of 2:39.98. The junior recorded a time of 2:36.16 in the morning prelims.
  • In the 200 breast C-Final, senior Holly Staats finished first in the heat with a time of 2:36.04, while fellow senior Ella Palmet placed right behind her with the second-fastest swim of 2:36.69. Staats clocked in with a time of 2:36.61 in the morning prelims, while Palmet finished with a time of 2:37.14 in the morning prelims.
