ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team stayed within striking distance all game long, but was unable to completely eliminate the deficit in a 58-49 loss at RIT on Saturday afternoon to complete the regular season.
- Skidmore (11-14, 9-9 Liberty League) finished sixth in the conference and will travel to third-seeded Rensselaer on Tuesday for the First Round of the Liberty League Tournament.
- RIT is 19-6 and 16-2, tied for the top spot. The Tigers are the No. 2 seed with a first-round bye.
- Madison Meyer led the Thoroughbreds with 16 points with two steals, four rebounds, and an assist.
- Claudia Schneider added a double-figure performance with 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
- Sophia Martinez contributed nine points, and Ruby Krop chipped in two points with a block defensively.
- Sara Hastie led the team with three steals and two assists. Just five out of Skidmore's 19 field goals were assisted. RIT had assists on 15 out of its 23 field goals.
- Skidmore shot 38.0 percent (19-of-15) from the field, hit 57.1 percent (8-of-14) of its free throws, and battled inside with 26 points in the paint, but struggled from three (21.4 percent).
- RIT was led by Faye Kaplinski's 17 points and Maddy Ramsgard's 11, while Ben Kayser-Cochran added nine in the balanced attack.
- Kaplinski completed her double-double with 10 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals.
- The Tigers outpaced the Thoroughbreds on the boards, 42-25 with a 13-7 edge on the offensive glass.
- The hosts held the lead for all but the first 45 seconds of the game.
- Schneider hit a jumper with 3:01 left in the first half to pull Skidmore to within a point before RIT scored the last three points of the half and the first two of the third quarter.
- Skidmore fought back to tie the contest at 35 right before the Tigers went on a 12-2 run to take its first double-digit lead of the afternoon. RIT led by as many as 12 down the stretch before the nine-point final spread.
