Skidmore totals six podium performances on day two of Liberty League Championships

ITHACA, NY – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams produced another six podium finishers to cap off a successful second day at the Liberty League Championship meet on Thursday.

The Thoroughbreds compiled strong swims on the women's side, with junior Kelly Hsu's bronze-medal finish in the 200 free highlighting three individual podium finishers in addition to a relay podium performance. After two days, the team sits in third place with 459 points.

On the men's side, Skidmore had one individual podium finisher alongside one relay podium finish. The Thoroughbreds also produced three B-Finalists and a pair of C-Finalists in the pool, adding up to a total of 242 points to sit in sixth place after two days.

PODIUM FINISHERS
  • In the women's 200 free A-Final, Hsu took bronze with a third-place swim of 1:53.93, in a competitive race that saw the top-four finishers all touch within eight-tenth of a second. The star junior recorded the second-fastest morning prelims time of 1:54.43.
  • In the women's 100 fly A-Final, senior Gretchen Gwitt placed sixth with a time of 58.43. The senior swam a time of 57.96 to also place sixth during the morning prelims.
  • In the men's 400 IM A-Final, freshman Jaz Liotta placed eighth with a time of 4:11.87. The first year clocked in with the seventh-best time during the morning prelims at 4:10.36.
  • In the women's 400 IM A-Final, senior Ginny Hunt claimed sixth place with a swim of 4:47.20. The senior swam the fifth-best time during the morning prelims at 4:48.76.
  • In the men's 200 free relay, the Skidmore quartet of Josiah Leese, Brandon Lis, Aidan Darling and Henry Brien finished eighth among the 'A-Relay' teams with a time of 1:31.03.
  • In the women's 200 free relay, the group of Faye Mooney, Gwitt, Emelia Lan and Hsu touched in a time of 1:37.40 to place fourth.
MEN'S POINTS SCORERS
  • In the 200 free B-Final, junior Jonah Vaynshtok touched in fourth with a time of 1:44.05. The junior improved upon his morning prelims time of 1:44.24.
  • In the 200 free C-Final, freshman Graham Mahoney took sixth with a time of 1:47.50. Mahoney also clocked in at 1:46.86 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 100 fly B-Final, sophomore Thomas Gaughan touched in a time of 51.86 to place fourth in the heat. The sophomore finished with a morning prelims time of 51.86.
  • Also competing in the B-Final, junior Henry Brien took seventh with a time of 54.09. Brien recorded a time of 54.07 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 400 IM C-Final, senior Brandon Lis took first with the top time of 4:19.98. The senior swam a time of 4:21.32 during the morning prelims.
WOMEN'S POINTS SCORERS
  • In the 200 free B-Final, freshman Emelia Lan claimed second place after touching in at a time of 1:56.41. The first year swam a time of 1:57.57 during the morning prelims.
  • Also competing in the B-Final, freshman Laurel Halfman placed seventh with a time of 1:59.52. Halfman recorded a time of 1:59.60 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 200 free C-Final, freshman Arianna Matthews touched in first with a time of 1:59.46. The first year finished with a time of 2:01.33 during the morning prelims.
  • Also competing in the C-Final, sophomore Julianna Kuznar came in seventh at a time of 2:05.17. The sophomore recorded a morning prelims time of 2:06.13.
  • In the 100 fly C-Final, senior Lydia Walker placed sixth with a time of 1:02.46. The senior finished with a time of 1:03.16 during the morning prelims.
  • In the 400 IM C-Final, junior Katherine Manaresi secured first place with a time of 4:57.89. The junior swam a time of 5:03.32 during the morning prelims.
  • Also competing in the C-Final, freshman Lily Splendido placed fifth at a time of 5:04.31. The first year swam a time of 5:08.76 during the morning prelims.
UP NEXT
Skidmore is back in the pool for day three tomorrow morning with the prelims at 10 AM, before the evening finals session kicks off at 6 PM. The order of events will be the 200 Fly, 100 Back and 100 Breast during the prelims. Finals session will also include the 200 Medley and 800 Free Relays. The men's 1-meter diving event will also take place following the morning prelims.
