#20 Ithaca makes chances count in 4-0 win over Skidmore

ITHACA, N.Y. – Ithaca made the most of its opportunities Sunday, scoring four times on 11 shots to defeat the Skidmore College field hockey team 4-0 in Liberty League action at Higgins Stadium.
 
The Thoroughbreds (4-6, 1-2 Liberty League) finished just one shot behind the Bombers (10-2, 3-0) and the teams were even with eight penalty corners apiece.
  • Ithaca, ranked 20th nationally, struck just 2:27 into the contest when Audrey McMahon redirected a Toni Ierardi pass from the end line for a 1-0 lead.
  • Skidmore generated three shots in the opening quarter. Molly Van Vranken put the Thoroughbreds' first shot on goal in the 11th minute after earlier attempts from Emma Houff and Gianna DiGioacchino.
  • The Bombers doubled their lead with 48 seconds remaining in the first half. Breeah Shaw sent a long cross into the circle, where Caroline Folan finished to make it 2-0.
  • Ithaca broke the game open with two goals off penalty-corner opportunities in the third quarter. Mia Woodard scored at 34:41 before Abby Hennessy connected from the top of the circle at 43:39.
  • The statistical margins remained close despite the four-goal difference. Ithaca held an 11-10 advantage in shots, while both teams earned eight penalty corners.
  • Skidmore controlled the fourth-quarter opportunity count with all five shots and all five penalty corners in the period. The Thoroughbreds generated four consecutive corners in the final two minutes but were unable to break through.
  • Van Vranken led Skidmore with three shots, putting all three on goal. DiGioacchino and Colby Paul had two attempts apiece.
  • Nicole Sylvestri made five saves over the first three quarters for the Thoroughbreds. Allison Morgan played a scoreless fourth quarter in goal.
