Lan Rookie of the Week highlights five Thoroughbreds recognized by Liberty League

TROY, N.Y. – Skidmore College women's swimming & diving first year Emelia Lan was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season. Additionally, Sophia Martinez (women's basketball), Jacob Gooden and Aidan Roy (men's basketball), and Tomás Ruiz (men's swimming & diving) were each selected to the Honor Roll for the week ending Jan. 25.
 
Emelia Lan (Fr., Tenafly, New Jersey) - Liberty League Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week
Lan finished in the top three in all four of her events on Saturday against Rensselaer including a pair of victories. She was first as anchor of the winning 200-yard medley relay team (1:52.50) and also won the 200-yard IM (2:17.85). Lan placed third in both the 50-yard free (25.22) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:37.35).
 
Sophia Martinez (#3, So., G, Westampton, New Jersey) – Liberty League Women's Basketball Honor Roll
Martinez averaged 12.5 points for the Thoroughbreds last week with 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds. She started with 15 points and six steals in a tight loss against Vassar before scoring 10 points in just 18 minutes in the win against Bard. Martinez shot 41.7 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from 3-point range.
 
Jacob Gooden (#15, Fr., G, Edmond, Oklahoma) - Liberty League Men's Basketball Honor Roll
Gooden averaged 16.0 points last week including his seventh 20-point performance of the year and third in his last four games. Gooden had 12 points with five rebounds Tuesday against Bard, and then scored 20 points with a season-high five assists, two blocks, and two steals to help lead Skidmore in a big win over Bard on Friday.

Aidan Roy (#2, Jr., G, Mamaroneck, New York) - Liberty League Men's Basketball Honor Roll
Roy averaged 13.0 points across two games for the Thoroughbreds in a 1-1 week with 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.5 steals. The junior scored 12 against Vassar on Tuesday before scoring 14 points with five assists and five steals to lead Skidmore to a big win over Bard on Friday.
 
Tomás Ruiz (Sr., Cambridge, Massachusetts) – Liberty League Men's Swimming & Diving Honor Roll
Ruiz scored over 200 in both diving events on Saturday in victories over an opponent from Rensselaer. He started with a 220.50 in the 3-meter before wrapping his solid day with a 210.53 in the 1-meter. Both scores were within 10 points of his personal bests.
