Late basket lifts Vassar past Skidmore, 53-50

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team saw a late lead slip away in a 53-50 Liberty League loss to Vassar on Tuesday evening at the Williamson Sports Center.
  • Skidmore (4-10, 2-5 Liberty League) led for more than 22 minutes of the contest and carried advantages at halftime (24-19) and after three quarters (37-32).
  • The Thoroughbreds built their lead to as many as eight with 3:03 remaining before Vassar closed the game on a 13-2 run.
  • Claudia Schneider scored inside with six seconds remaining to give Skidmore a 50-49 lead, but Vassar's Elodie Ware answered with the go-ahead layup just a second later after a Brewer timeout.
  • Skidmore was unable to connect on a potential go-ahead 3-pointer on the other end before Vassar's Maureen Regan added two free throws at the buzzer to account for the final margin.
  • Vassar (7-7, 6-1) outscored Skidmore 21-13 in the fourth quarter.
  • Sophia Martinez led the Thoroughbreds with 15 points to go along with six steals, four rebounds, and a block.
  • Meghan Drury finished with 10 points, while Schneider added nine.
  • Madison Meyer recorded eight points with three rebound, three assists, and a pair of steals.
  • Sara Hastie pulled in seven boards to lead the team. Jenny Shine blocked two shots.
  • Skidmore held a 34-32 rebounding edge and scored 11 second-chance points, but the Brewers capitalized at the free-throw line, going 12-for-16 compared to Skidmore's 3-for-9.
  • Vassar also finished with a 22-12 edge in bench points, but the Thoroughbreds outscored the Brewers 28-24 in the paint.
  • Erin Lovett led Vassar with 15 points and three steals, while Ware finished with 13.
