Thoroughbreds post strong showing at RPI Kumpf Invitational

TROY, NY – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicked off the second half of the 2025-26 season with a competitive showing at the RPI Kumpf Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

The Thoroughbreds placed third on the men's side after scoring 353 points as a team, while the women also placed third with a score of 458 points. Both teams combined for ten top-three individual finishers in the pool and on the board throughout the meet.

"Given where we are in our training cycle, I'm proud of how we competed today," said head coach Jill Greenleaf. "Despite coming off the hardest training block of the season, our athletes performed well. They demonstrated grit and resilience and we look forward to seeing our training pay in the upcoming weeks."

MEN'S TOP-EIGHT FINISHERS
  • In the 1000 free, freshman Jaz Liotta touched in fourth with a time of 10:29.12, while sophomore Lachlan Hartshorn placed fifth at 10:38.69.  
  • Junior Jonah Vaynshtok finished fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.28, before fellow junior Aidan Darling touched in eighth with a swim of 1:58.01.
  • In the 50 free, junior Henry Brien placed sixth with a sprint of 23.71, while freshman Graham Mahoney touched in eighth at a time of 24.74.
  • In the 100 IM, senior Brandon Lis finished seventh with a time of 59.71 before freshman Oliver Merkner touched in eighth with a swim of 1:05.38.
  • Competing on the boards, Tomas Ruiz first placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 190.60, before placing third in the 1-meter dive at a score of 199.50.
  • Brien placed seventh in the 200 fly with a time of 2:14.92.
  • In the 100 free, sophomore Thomas Gaughan touched in fifth at a time of 49.30, leading a trio of Thoroughbreds that also included Vaynshtok finishing sixth at 50.18 and Liotta eighth with a time of 51.21.
  • Mahoney placed sixth in the 200 back with a time of 2:09.05, while sophomore Anand Shah finished eighth at 2:32.73.
  • In the 500 free, Lis touched in fifth with a time of 5:12.58, while freshman Luke Splendido placed seventh with a time of 5:19.13.
  • In the 200 breast, Darling finished fifth with a swim of 2:22.93, right before freshman Josiah Leese who placed sixth at 2:27.32.
WOMEN'S TOP-EIGHT FINISHERS
  • In the 1000 free, junior Jae Mason placed third with a time of 11:18.93, headlining a Thoroughbred trio that included freshman Laurel Halfman in fourth at 11:30.59 and fellow freshman Lily Splendido touching in eighth with a swim of 12:09.77.
  • Junior Kelly Hsu placed second in the 200 free after clocking in at 2:00.06, while fellow juniors Sabrina Reed placed sixth at a time of 2:07.63 and Katherine Manaresi in eighth at 2:11.32.
  • In the 50 free, freshman Emelia Lan touched in second with a sprint of 25.92, which just barely beat out junior Faye Mooney in third at 25.94.
  • In the 100 IM, senior Gretchen Gwitt placed fourth with a time of 1:05.82, while fellow seniors Ella Palmet touched in sixth at 1:06.71 and Ginny Hunt in seventh with a time of 1:06.74.
  • Hsu placed second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:19.71, before Hunt came in fifth at 2:23.44 and freshman Ava Stadler touched in eighth with a time of 2:40.45.
  • In the 100 free, Lan placed third after clocking in at 55.60, while Mason came in fifth at a time of 57.16 and senior Lydia Walker in sixth at 58.68.
  • In the 200 back, Palmet touched in fifth with a time of 2:21.27, while Halfman placed sixth in a time of 2:22.04.
  • In the 500 free, Reed finished second with a swim of 5:31.05, before Manaresi touched in eighth with a time of 5:53.49.
  • In the 200 breast, Lan came in second after clocking in at 2:33.07, while fellow freshman Arianna Matthews placed sixth at 2:39.57.
MIXED RELAYS
  • In the 200-medley relay, the Thoroughbred relay team of Hunt, Liotta, Gwitt and Gaughan touched in fourth with a time of 1:47.50
  • In the 200-free relay, Skidmore's quartet of Vaynshtok, Hsu, Gwitt and Gaughan finished third with a combined time of 1:36.22
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds will host RPI next Saturday for senior day at the Williamson Sports Center Pool. The start time is set for 1 PM, with senior day celebrations taking place prior to the start of the meet.
