Gonzalez, Muratori advance onto semifinals round of ITA Regionals

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Led by a pair of first-year standouts, the Skidmore College women's tennis team capped the first two days of competition as host of the 2025 ITA Northeast Regionals with semifinalists in both singles and doubles play.

SINGLES MATCHES
  • Freshman Ginevra Muratori began her tournament run with a statement, upsetting top-seeded Erin McCusker of Vassar 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). She followed with an 8-1 second round victory over William Smith's Mae Kellersman, before taking down RIT's Kira Kronenberg 6-2, 6-4 in the round of 16. Muratori booked her spot in the semifinals by defeating Eleni Dakos of TCNJ 6-1, 6-4.
  • Freshman Ellie Lake reached the quarterfinals after first taking down Union's Calista Finkelstein 7-5, 6-1, defeating RPI's Gauri Muliyil 8-5, before cruising past Emily Greb of RIT 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16. The freshman's run came to an end in the quarters with a 2-6, 3-6 defeat to Kaaviya Kannan of RPI.  
  • In round one, freshman Amelie Gonzalez battled through a first round thriller against Hamilton's Hannah Walpole, winning 10-5 in a decisive tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-1). However, she fell to Sophia Yang of NYU, 3-8, to bow out in the second round.
  • Sophomore Mia Sarzynska required three sets to take down RPI's Kayla Wheeler 6-1, 1-6, 11-9 to advance past the first round. However, she fell against NYU's Victoria Wang 4-8 in the second round.
  • In the B-Draw, sophomore Maggie English took down William Smith's Bethany Walker, 8-5, in the first round. She narrowly fell in the second round in tiebreaks against Vassar's Sara Lippin, 7-8 (8-10).
DOUBLES MATCHES
  • Gonzalez/Muratori opened with an 8–6 win over Brideau/Ring of TCNJ, then repeated the scoreline against RPI's Chandler/Wheeler in the second round. The duo advanced onto the semifinals with a commanding 8–1 victory over Krishnan/Kirby of Vassar.
  • Lake/Mia Rosenberg topped Cheung/Pop of Ithaca 8–3 before bowing out to RPI's Jaiswal/Ridenour 0–8 in the second round.
  • Beilynn Geiss/Sarzynska defeated Toor/Yang of Rochester 8–4 in the opener but fell just short in the next round, 7–8 (0–7), to TCNJ's Robinson/Dakos.
UP NEXT
Gonzalez and Muratori are back at it tomorrow for the finale of the 2025 ITA Northeast Regionals, with the start time set for 10 AM. The duo will take on Emma Kast and Vera Bondarenko of NYU in doubles play. Muratori will also compete in the singles semifinals against Kaaviya Kannan of RPI.
