SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – A high-scoring first half propelled the Skidmore College women's soccer team to a dominant 3-1 home victory over Clarkson on Wednesday afternoon.
Starting off Liberty League play on the right foot, the Thoroughbreds (3-2-2, 1-0 Liberty League) offense came alive early as junior

Alexandra Verna completed the first half trifecta right before halftime. The Golden Knights (2-4-2, 0-2 Liberty League) managed to prevent the shutout bid with a lone score in the closing minutes of the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Skidmore's first goal came in the eighth minute on a perfectly executed corner kick from Caporusso, which connected off the head from Foley and into the back of the net.
- In the 17th minute, the Thoroughbreds again struck when an initial Lewis shot bounced off the left post and ricocheted to Caporusso, who made the quick pass back to Lewis for the chip-shot goal to put Skidmore up 2-0.
- The Thoroughbreds completed the first half scoring in the 40th minute when Verna scored off the rebound of an initial Hannah Fetzer shot attempt that was saved by Clarkson's goalie, giving Skidmore the commanding 3-0 lead at intermission.
- After firing 13 shots throughout the second half, Clarkson finally avoided the shutout in the 87th minute when Brooke Everest scored off the rebound of an initial Callie Abel shot attempt.
STANDOUT THOROUGHBREDS
- Caporusso's two assists marks her second multi-assist performance as a Thoroughbred and gives her 14 in her career.
- Foley's goal is the first of her career.
- Lewis' score gives her four goals on the season and 11 in her career.
- Verna's goal is her third on the season.
- Senior goalie Avery Rogers finished with eight saves for her 15th career victory.
