Skidmore tied for fifth, Esler one shot off the lead, following first round of Tim Brown Invitational

Tate Esler shot a 3-under 68.
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College golf team is in a tie for fifth after the first of two rounds of the 20-team Tim Brown Invitational at the Ballston Spa Country Club.
  • The Thoroughbreds were one of seven sub-300 teams. Skidmore finished with a 293 – tied with Middlebury and one back f second-place Husson.
  • Tate Esler is one shot off the lead in a tie for third after a 3-under 68. The sophomore finished with a flurry, playing his final six holes (No. 17-18, 1-4) at 5-under including an eagle-3 at the third.
  • Patrick McLaughlin fired an even-par 71 with birdies on three out of the four par-5s on the property. He is tied for 12th.
  • Evan Forrest, Johnny Hwang, and Rudraksha Banerjee are all tied for 65th with matching 77s.
  • Campbell Jenkins shot a 75 as an individual. The sophomore started and ended his rounds with birdies on No. 18 and 17, respectively.
  • Amherst (280) leads by two over Rensselaer.
  • RPI's Jacob Lindsay and Amherst's Paari Kaviyarasu both shot 67s to share the overnight lead. Three players, including Esler, are just one off the pace.
  • Eleven players had under par rounds.

  • Sunday tee times have been pushed back two hours, with players going off at No. 1 and No. 12 starting at 10 a.m. Skidmore players will be in the penultimate wave off the front.
