SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Skidmore College softball team is ready to hit the field for the 2025 season, opening with eight games at The Spring Games in Florida from March 9-13. With a strong group of returning players and a talented incoming class, the Thoroughbreds aim to build momentum early and make a push in the Liberty League.
2024 REWIND
Last season, Skidmore finished with momentum after a season-ending sweep of Liberty League rival Clarkson. The Thoroughbreds had a 9-27 overall record and a 3-11 mark in Liberty League, and secured key conference wins over RIT and Clarkson and gained valuable experience against top competition.
Â
Head coach
Liz Neubinski is confident in her team's growth.
"We saw a lot of progress last year, even if it didn't always show up in the win column," Neubinski said. "Our players have worked hard to take the next step, and we're excited to see it pay off this season."
THE SCHEDULE AHEAD
The Thoroughbreds will begin their season with eight games in Florida, facing teams from across the Mid-Atlantic, New England, and the Midwest. The early matchups will allow Skidmore to fine-tune its approach before returning north.
Â
Skidmore's home opener is set for Saturday, March 22 against VTSU Castleton, followed by nonconference doubleheaders at home against SUNY Delhi (March 28) and John Jay (March 30).
Â
Liberty League play kicks off with a home doubleheader against Rensselaer on April 5, followed by key matchups against Ithaca (April 11) and Union (April 12), and then on the road at RIT (April 18) and four-time defending champion Rochester (April 19).
Â
Down the stretch, Skidmore hosts one more non-league doubleheader against Cobleskill (April 22) before closing at home against St. Lawrence (April 26) and then fishing the regular season on the road at Clarkson (May 3).
Â
The Liberty League Tournament is May 8-10.
STAR RETURNERS
Several key players are back to lead the Thoroughbreds this season, bringing both experience and production from last year. Junior
Elle Harrison was selected to the All-Liberty League Honorable Mention list after hitting .520 in conference games with a .449 on-base percentage overall for the season. Skidmore has 13 players back from last season's roster.
Â
"These returners are going to be the backbone of our team," Neubinski said. "They bring experience, leadership, and a competitive edge that will help us in close games."
T-BRED NEWCOMERS
A strong incoming class will add depth and versatility to the roster, with five first-years added to the roster.
Â
"Our newcomers have a lot of talent and bring great energy to the team," Neubinski said.
