Sodi’s runner-up finish, four new program record highlight day one of Liberty League Championships

ITHACA, NY – The Skidmore College swimming and diving teams kicked off the 2025 Liberty League Championship meet with a stellar showing in the pool on Wednesday evening, as senior Nicolas Sodi earned a runner-up finish to highlight five individual and two relay podium finishers, in addition to four new program records being set.

With The Thoroughbreds rounded out the evening with a pair of fourth-place rankings, with the men scoring 206 points on the day and the women scoring 188 points. With Sodi securing a silver finish in the 500 free on the men's side, the women saw four records fall in the 500 free, 200 IM, 100 back and the 400 medley relay throughout the day.

MEN'S POINTS SCORERS
  • In the 500 free A-Finals, Sodi held on for silver in the final stretch of the race after touching in at a time of 4:35.52, just two-tenths ahead of Ithaca's Kissel, to score 28 points for Skidmore.
  • Also scoring in the 500 free, sophomore Jonah Vaynshtok finished 11th overall after touching in third in the B-Finals with a time of 4:43.43 to score 16 points, while freshman Allen Huseinovic placed 13th overall after finishing fifth in the B-Finals with a time of 4:44.09 to score 14 points.
  • Senior Ryan Delfico saw a podium finish in the 200 IM and just barely missing out on a bronze finish after being out touched by just five-hundreths of a second with his time of 1:54.49 to place fourth and scoring 26 points.
  • Also scoring in the 200 IM was freshman Thomas Gaughan, who finished 14th overall after touching in sixth in the B-Finals with a time of 1:57.70 to score 13 points. Additionally, senior David Marcello placed 22nd overall after touching in sixth in the C-Finals with a time of 2:03.40 and scoring three points.
  • In the 50 free, senior Gavin Schiavi finished 15th overall after touching in seventh in the B-Finals with a time of 21.72 to score 12 points. Fellow senior Liam Keating also touched in 19th overall after placing third in the C-Finals with a time of 22.08 to score six points. Junior Owen Magoon rounded out the scoring trio by finishing 21st overall after touching in fifth in the C-Finals with a time of 22.16 to score four points.
  • Competing on the boards in the 3-meter dive, sophomore Josh Amembal finished eighth with a score of 361.45 to score 22 points.
  • The Skidmore 400 medley relay A-Relay of Delfico, Keating, Gaughan and Sodi saw a podium finish after placing fifth with a time of 3:27.34 in the finals session, scoring 50 points.
  • Also scoring in the 400 medley relay, the Thoroughbreds B-relay of Keegan Scharoun, Aidan Darling, Huseinovic and Vaynshtok finished third in the C-Finals with a time of 3:33.69 to score 12 points.
WOMEN'S POINTS SCORERS
  • Sophomore Sabrina Reed set a new program record in the 500 free A-Finals after swimming a stellar time of 5:08.62 to place fourth overall and scoring 26 points. The sophomore broke the previous record time of 5:10.12 set by Carrie Koch back in 2013.
  • Also scoring in the 500 free, sophomore Jae Mason finished 13th overall after touching in fifth in the B-Finals with a time of 5:19.01 to score 14 points. Fellow sophomore MK Booth also finished 21st overall after touching in fifth in the C-Finals with a time of 5:24.06 to score four points. Lastly, senior Emily Czelusniak placed 23rd overall after touching in seventh in the C-Finals with a time of 5:34.68 to score two points.
  • Another program record was broken in the 200 IM, as sophomore Kelly Hsu accomplished the feat during the morning prelims after touching in a time of 2:08.58, breaking the previous record of 2:09.55 set by Rachel Olson in 2023. In the evening finals, the sophomore followed up with a time of 2:09.63 to place sixth and scoring 24 points.
  • Also scoring in the 200 IM, junior Gretchen Gwitt finished ninth overall after touching in first in the B-Finals with a time of 2:10.07 to score 20 points. Despite just missing out on the A-Finals, the junior's time in fact was faster than two swimmers in the fast heat. Freshman Julianna Kuznar finished 23rd overall after touching in seventh in the C-Finals with a time of 2:21.71 to score two points
  • In the 50 free, the sophomore duo of Fayne Mooney and Emily Booth saw similar results in the B-Finals, with Mooney finishing tenth overall after touching in second in the heat with a time of 24.78 to score 17 points, while Booth placed 12th overall after touching in fourth in the B-Finals with a time of 25.00 to score 15 points.
  • Breaking records in the 400-medley relay, the Thoroughbreds A-Relay of Ginny Hunt, Mooney, Gwitt and Hsu broke the program record twice on the same day with a pair of terrific swims. In the evening finals, the quartet placed fourth after clocking in at a combined time of 3:57.69 to score 52 points. The performance came after a record-breaking prelims swim of 3:58.96, which broke the previous best time of 4:00.77 set in 2023.
  • Leading off in the record-breaking relays, Hunt in the process set a new program record of her own in the 100 back as the leadoff leg, as her best time of 58.66 broke the previous top time of 59.31 set by teammate Gretchen Gwitt earlier this season.
  • Also scoring in the 400-medley relay, the Skidmore quartet of Mason, Katherine Manaresi, E. Booth and Reed finished third in the C-Final with a time of 4:07.50 to score 12 points.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds are back in the pool tomorrow morning at 10 AM for the prelims session of day two at the Liberty League Championships. The session will be followed by the women's 1-meter dive, before rounding things out with a 6 PM finals session.
