Lu named Liberty League Swimmer of the Week as Carpenter, Lan selected as Rookies of the Week; three on Honor Roll

TROY, N.Y. – Skidmore College senior Brendan Lu was named the Liberty League Men's Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Nov. 16. Rachel Carpenter (women's basketball) and Emelia Lan (women's swimming & diving) also picked up Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors. Three other Thoroughbreds (Charlie Fantom-men's basketball, Claudia Schneider-women's basketball, Gretchen Gwitt-women's swimming & diving) were recognized on the Honor Roll.
 
Brendan Lu (Sr., New York, New York) – Liberty League Men's Swimmer of the Week
Lu had six wins and two second-place finishes over the weekend leading the Thoroughbreds to dual wins over New Paltz and Trinity. On Friday in Skidmore's big win over New Paltz, Lu placed first in the 200-medley relay (1:40.64) and the 100 free (49.47). He was also second in the 200 IM (2:01.67) and the 100 back (59.30). Then, on Saturday, Lu again was part of the winning 200-medley relay (1:39.56), the 50 free (21.88), 100 fly (52.87), and 200-free relay (1:29.10).
 
Rachel Carpenter (#22, Fr., G, Westborough, Massachusetts) – Liberty League Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Carpenter came off the bench to drill each of her first four 3-point attempts to jumpstart the Thoroughbreds to an eventual 73-69 win at Williams. She finished with 12 points in her collegiate debut and finished 4-of-5 from long range with an assist.
 
Emelia Lan (Fr., Tenafly, New Jersey) – Liberty League Women's Swimming & Diving Rookie of the Week
Lan touched first in each of her events over the weekend in dual meets against New Paltz and Trinity. She went a perfect 3-for-3 with victories against New Paltz in the 200-medley relay (1:56.38), 200 breast (2:39.10), and 200-free relay (1:44.64). She then won all four again on Saturday against Trinity, including the 200 free (1:59.04), 50 free (25.36), 100 free (55.36), and 200-free relay (1:41.19).
 
Charlie Fantom (#5, Jr., G, Norwell, Massachusetts) – Liberty League Men's Basketball Honor Roll
Fantom scored a game-high 22 point on Friday night to lead the Thoroughbreds to a 91-87 victory over Middlebury. The junior guard shot 7-of-10 from 3-point range and finished with seven rebounds, a steal, and an assist in 32 minutes against the Panthers.
 
Claudia Schneider (#33, Jr., F/G, Southbury, Connecticut) - Liberty League Women's Basketball Honor Roll
Schneider filled up the stat sheet in Skidmore's season-opening road win at Williams. She has 13 points to go with eight rebounds and a game-high five steals. Schneider also had two assists in 35 minutes leading the Thoroughbreds in the 73-69 win over the Ephs.
 
Gretchen Gwitt (Sr., Buffalo, New York) – Liberty League Women's Swimming & Diving Honor Roll
Gwitt had four wins and one second-place finish over the weekend for the Thoroughbreds in dual meets against New Paltz and Trinity. She was part of the winning 200-medley relay team on Friday (1:56.38) before capturing wins on Saturday in the 100 back (1:01.84), 100 fly (59.99), and 200-free relay (1:41.19). She was also second as part of the 200-medley relay (1:50.70).
