Thoroughbreds split home dual meet against Trinity (CT)

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped the weekend by splitting their dual meet against Trinity (CT) at the Williamson Sports Center pool on Saturday.

The men's team wrapped up a perfect weekend in the pool with a competitive 153-137 victory over the Bantoms that saw a win in both relays alongside nine individual event victories. Sophomore Thomas Gaughan led the way with a hat trick of individual event victories in the 200 fly, 100 free and 200 IM.

On the women's side, the Thoroughbreds suffered the first dual meet loss by the thinnest of margins, falling 148-150 to the Bantoms despite winning one relay and nine individual events. Freshman Emelia Lan swept the sprint free with a trio of wins in the 50, 100 and 200 free events.

MEN'S EVENT WINNERS
  • In the 200-medley relay, the Skidmore quartet of Brandon Lis, Owen Magoon, Brendan Lu and Thomas Gaughan took the win with a combined time of 1:39.56.
  • Junior Jonah Vaynshtok picked up his first of two individual wins with a top time of 1:49.16 in the 200 free, before following up with the fastest 500 free time of 5:03.23.
  • The 100 breast was won by junior Owen Magoon, who outpaced the field and touched in first at 1:03.59.
  • Gaughan's trifecta first started in the 200 fly, where the sophomore took first with a time of 2:06.70, before following up in the 100 free by touching first after a sprint of 49.37. Gaughan also won the 200 IM after clocking in with the top time of 2:03.92.
  • In the 50 free, senior Brendan Lu outsprinted the field by touching in first at 21.88. The senior followed up in the 100 fly with the fastest swim of 52.87.
  • Sophomore Allen Huseinovic won the 200 back with his top time of 2:02.33.
  • In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Lu, Vaynshtok, Henry Brien and Magoon finished first at a time of 1:29.10.
WOMEN'S EVENT WINNERS
  • In the 1000 free, junior Jae Mason touched first with a top time of 11:21.71.
  • Lan's freestyle trifecta first began in the 200 free, when the freshman secured the victory with a time of 1:59.04. The freshman followed up by outsprinting the field and clocking a 25.36 in the 50 free, before rounding things out in the 100 free by touching first at 55.36.
  • In the 100 back, senior Gretchen Gwitt clocked in first at a time of 1:01.84, before following up with a 100 fly win after touching in at 59.99.
  • Junior Kelly Hsu secured her first of two individual victories with a top time of 5:28.19 in the 500 free, before touching in first with a time of 2:15.48 in the 200 IM.
  • Competing on the board, sophomore Lila Tulimieri performed best in the 3-meter dive with a score of 189.08.
  • In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Lan, Faye Mooney, Emily Booth and Gwitt with a combined time of 1:41.19.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds will compete in the Don Richards Invitational hosted by RIT next month from December 5-6.
