Swim win vs New Paltz 11-14

Skidmore starts weekend strong with sweep of New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY – The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams picked up a clean dual meet sweep of SUNY New Paltz to kick off the first of two weekend meets on Friday evening.

On the men's side, the Thoroughbreds cruised to a 168-89 victory after winning both relays and eight individual events. The women won in even more lopsided fashion by dominating the Hawks in a final score of 210-45 after winning both relays in addition to a dozen individual events.

MEN'S EVENT WINNERS
  • In the 200-medley relay, the Skidmore quartet of Brandon Lis, Owen Magoon, Thomas Gaughan and Brendan Lu won in a combined time of 1:40.64.
  • Senior Brandon Lis clocked in at a top time of 56.18 in the 100 back.
  • In the 100 breast, junior Jonah Vaynshtok touched first at 1:04.35.
  • Sophomore Allen Huseinovic took the victory in the 200 fly with his time of 2:06.72. The sophomore followed up with a top 500 free swim of 5:00.74.
  • In the 50 free, junior Owen Magoon outsprinted the field with the fastest swim of 23.44.
  • Senior Brendan Lu claimed first place in the 100 free with his time of 49.47.
  • In the 200 back, freshman Graham Mahoney secured the victory after touching in first at 2:10.06.
  • Sophomore Thomas Gaughan outswam the field in the 100 fly and clocked in with a time of 54.81.
  • In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Vaynshtok, Jaz Liotta, Huseinovic and Magoon out touched New Paltz by three-hundredths of a second to win 1:31.85.
WOMEN'S EVENT WINNERS
  • In the 200-medley relay, the Thoroughbreds quartet of Gretchen Gwitt, Emelia Lan, Kelly Hsu, Faye Mooney placed first with a time of 1:56.38.
  • In the 1000 free, Junior Sarah Miller clocked in first at 11:58.17.
  • Junior Emily Booth secured the win in the 200 free with her top time of 2:07.08.
  • In the 100 back, freshman Laurel Halfman won with a time of 1:06.59, before following up with the top 200 back time of 2:22.71.
  • Freshman Arianna Matthews touched in first with a time of 1:16.12 in the 100 breast.
  • In the 200 fly, senior Ginny Hunt clocked in first at a top finish of 2:21.53.
  • Junior Faye Mooney outpaced the field in the 50 free with a top sprint of 25.99.
  • In the 100 free, junior Jae Mason took the win with a time of 57.57.
  • Freshman Emelia Lan clinched the individual victory in the 200 breast after touching in first at 2:39.10.
  • In the 500 free, junior Katherine Manaresi secured the win with a time of 5:48.38.
  • Junior Kelly Hsu clocked in first at 1:01.09 in the 100 fly.
  • In the 200 IM, senior Lydia Walker touched in first with a time of 2:27.30.
  • In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Hsu, Lan, Mooney and E. Booth combined for the top time of 1:44.64.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds are back in the pool tomorrow by hosting Trinity (CT) at 11 AM in the Williamson Sports Center pool.
