TROY, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team swept the Liberty League weekly awards and five other Thoroughbreds from three teams earned mention on the Honor Roll.
Mia Sarzynska was selected as the Singles Performer of the Week,
Ellie Lake is the Rookie of the Week, and the team of
Amelie Gonzalez and
Ginevra Muratori earned the honor of Doubles Team of the Week for the second time.
Brooke Golden and
Colby Paul from field hockey,
Colin Goodhines and
Will Devall from men's soccer, and
Abby Lewis from women's soccer were all recognized on the Honor Roll.
Mia Sarzynska (So., New York, New York) - Liberty League Women's Tennis Singles Performer of the Week
Sarzynska went 2-1 in singles versus the top players from Wellesley and Siena over the weekend at the Thoroughbred Invitational. She defeated Corte-Real and Xu from Wellesley in straight sets, with her only loss against D1 Siena's top player. Sarzynska also teamed with
Beilynn Geiss to notch a doubles win over Wellesley's top duo.
Ellie Lake (Fy., Annapolis, Maryland) – Liberty League Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Lake went a perfect 3-0 in singles against top players from Wellesley. She defeated Pak, Patel and Corte-Real from Wellesley. Her match against Wellesley's Corte-Real was an exciting three-set match, with Lake winning 14-12 in the third set tie-breaker.
Amelie Gonzalez/Ginevra Muratori - Liberty League Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
The regional champs compete at the prestigious ITA Cup against some of the country's top doubles teams. After losing two very close matches, including a three-set close battle with national champion Washington University, they closed out the weekend with a hard-fought win over the top ranked doubles team in the Northwest Region from Whitman, 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 10-2.
Brooke Golden (#25, Sr., D, Reading, Massachusetts) – Liberty League Field Hockey Honor Roll
Golden did not leave the field in either contest while spearheading Skidmore's back line in a pair of conference tilts. After Friday afternoon's 3-1 loss at Union, she helped the Thoroughbreds limit Ithaca to just one goal while successfully defending 13 corners for a 2-1 victory over the Bombers where she also recorded her league-leading fifth defensive save of the season.
Colby Paul (#16, Jr., F, Cheshire, Connecticut) - Liberty League Field Hockey Honor Roll
Paul scored in both games last week for the Thoroughbreds. She accounted for the Skidmore goal in Friday's 3-1 setback at Union before netting the game-winner on Sunday as the Thoroughbreds topped Ithaca, 2-1.
Colin Goodhines (#11, Jr., M/F, Longmeadow, Massachusetts) – Liberty League Men's Soccer Honor Roll
Goodhines scored his fourth and fifth goals of the year on Saturday in the early minutes against Bard to give the Thoroughbreds a 2-0 lead by the 18
th minute. He finished with three shots in 47 minutes against the Raptors. He also logged 86 minutes on Wednesday at Rensselaer in the Skidmore win with two shots.
Will Devall (#1, Sr., GK, Shoreham, New York) – Liberty League Men's Soccer Honor Roll
Devall registered back-to-back league shutouts (one combined) last week in Skidmore's wins over Rensselaer and Bard. The senior keeper had three saves on Wednesday night at RPI in 1 -0 Thoroughbred victory before adding five more on Saturday in 80 minutes as Skidmore blew out Bard 5-0.
Abby Lewis (#20, Jr., F, East Greenwich, Rhode Island) – Liberty League Women's Soccer Honor Roll
Lewis had three goals in a 2-0 week for the Thoroughbreds, including the first two Skidmore tallies on Saturday at Bard in a 3-0 win. She also scored Tuesday at home against Castleton in a 4-0 Thoroughbred win and now has a team-leading eight goals on the year.
