Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – The Skidmore College women's tennis team cruised to a 5-2 Liberty League victory over Union College on Thursday evening at the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center, wrapping up its lone dual match of the fall season.
The Thoroughbreds (1-0, 1-0 Liberty League) won two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles win, before winning the first three matches in singles play to seal the victory over the Garnet Chargers (1-1, 1-1 Liberty League).
DOUBLES MATCHES
- In first doubles, the duo of Muratori/Sarzynska jumped out to a quick 4-1 advantage, before closing out the Garnet Chargers' Alexis/Meidani with a final score of 6-2.
- In second doubles, Skidmore's Gonzalez/Lake lost the first game to Union's Langille/Semon, before responding by winning six consecutive games to take the match, 6-1.
- In third doubles, English/Rosenberg fell 2-6 to Union's Alphabet/Finkelstein.
SINGLES MATCHES
- In first singles, freshman Ginevra Muratori needed a third set tiebreaker to defeat Union's Chara Meidani after finishing 6-4, 4-6 in the first two sets of play.
- In second singles, sophomore Mia Sarzynska's comeback bid fell just short in a tough-fought third set tiebreaker loss to Skylar Semon of the Garnet Chargers, after finishing the first two sets 3-6, 6-0.
- In third singles, freshman Amelie Gonzalez conceded just two games in straight sets over Union's Calista Finkelstein, 6-0, 6-2.
- In fourth singles, freshman Ellie Lake took down Union's Megan McCusker with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 straight sets victory.
- In fifth singles, sophomore Maggie English lost to the Garnet Charger's Claire Langille after losing set one in tiebreaks, 6-7 (5-7) before falling 2-6 in set two.
- In sixth singles, freshman Mia Rosenberg defeated Union's Sydney Alphabet after conceding just two games to win in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
UP NEXT
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Friday, October 17 to host the Thoroughbred Invitational through Sunday, October 19. Separately, the first year duo of Muratori and Gonzalez will travel to Rome, GA to compete in the ITA Cup starting Thursday, October 16.
