MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Skidmore College men's tennis saw a strong first day of competition at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday, with two doubles teams advancing onto the semifinals round of their respective brackets and a trio of quarterfinals finishers in singles play.
SINGLES PERFORMERS
- Skidmore saw a trio of quarterfinals finishers in the C-Singles bracket of play. Sophomore Adel Aissaoui defeated Colby's Josh Kaplan 6-1, 7-5 to advance. Playing as the third seed, junior Kyle Lundberg took care of his first-round matchup after beating Colby's Kevin Mortimer in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Rounding out the trio was sophomore Harrison Gradin, who dominated Colby's Julian Cangieter-Hernandez 6-0, 6-0 to advance.
- However, all three fell in the quarterfinals despite each putting up a solid fight against their opponents.
DOUBLES PERFORMERS
- Competing in A-Doubles, the duo of senior Griffin Biernat and sophomore Yuval Goodman cruised to the semifinals round after first defeating Garbett and Dong of Brandeis, 8-2, in the first round before taking out the second-seeded RPI duo of Drover-Mattinen and Zhu, 8-4, for the upset.
- The Thoroughbreds duo of Lundberg and sophomore Fletcher King saw similar success in the B-Doubles after also advancing their way onto the semifinals round of their bracket. The duo first defeated Bates' Adey and Kapthanasis, 8-6, before following up with a comfortable 8-3 victory over the second-seeded Huet and Lewis duo of host Middlebury.

The Thoroughbreds are set for day two at the Middlebury Invite tomorrow. Competition will once again take place all day.
