Skidmore 12th after first of two rounds at Middlebury

Tate Esler opened with a 77.
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Skidmore College golf team shot a 310 in the first round of the Duke Nelson Invitational at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course at Middlebury on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds are 12th out of 23 teams in the event.
  • Evan Forrest is tied for eighth. He shot a 3-over 74. Forrest got off to a rocky start before playing his final 15 holes at 1-under featuring back-to-back birdies on No. 18 and No. 1.
  • Tate Esler carded a pair of birdies on the way to a 77. He's tied for 38th.
  • Campbell Jenkins is one behind and in a tie for 50th. Despite finishing without a birdie in his round, Jenkins recorded pars in each of his final eight holes.
  • Tommy Car is in a tie for 77th after his 81.
  • Patrick McLaughlin, in his first collegiate round, shot an 83.
  • Hartford (298) is the only team to break 300. The Hawks lead Hamilton and Middlebury by two.
  • Hamilton's Ramon Aroca Gonzalez was the only player to break par in the opening round. He shot a 1-under 70 and leads three others by two shots.
 
UP NEXT
The second and final round will also be played shotgun style and will begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
