ITHACA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team earned a dominant 5-0 win over Rensselaer in the second of two semifinals of the Liberty League Tournament on Saturday evening. The Thoroughbreds, ranked 37
th nationally, will face #34 Vassar in the championship match Sunday at 1 p.m.
- It will be the seventh straight season of the Skidmore-Vassar final. Skidmore has won them all, part of an active streak of 12 championships in a row. Fifteen out of the last 16 championship matches have been between these two teams.
- In addition to the five wins, Skidmore was ahead in each of the other four singles matches when it was clinched.
- Katie Wong clinched it for the Thoroughbreds at No. 3 singles. She claimed a 6-2, 6-1 victory over K. Flores Gonzalez.
- Beilynn Geiss won the other singles matchup for the Thoroughbreds. She dropped just one game in each of her two sets over Masha Karach.
- Ella Provost and Wong won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles to put the Thoroughbreds on the board.
- Konika Dhull and Grace Truong made it 2-0 with an 8-4 win at No. 1.
- Geiss and Katherine Almquist finished off the doubles sweep, beating Rapur/Bauer 8-5.
- Provost was up 4-2 in the second set when the match completed. She won the first, 6-4, at No. 4.
- Truong was up a break in the second at No. 2 following a 6-4 first-set win.
- Dhull was early in the second set in her match at No. 1. She also won the first 6-4.
- Almquist had just completed her first set at No. 5, a 7-5 win.
- Skidmore and RPI have now met in the playoffs in four consecutive seasons. Skidmore is 4-0 with two sweeps.
