Skidmore finishes with home sweep over Clarkson

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team finished its season on a high note by sweeping a Liberty League doubleheader against Clarkson University 3-1 and 8-3. The Thoroughbreds closed the campaign with an overall record of 9-27 and a 3-11 conference mark. The Golden Knights drop to 11-25 and 3-11.

  • Freshman Mallory Allen allowed just one unearned run and three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in the complete game victory.
  • Devin Fitzpatrick suffered the loss after allowing no earned runs, seven hits, and one walk with six strikeouts.
  • Seven different players had one hit apiece for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Katy Aldous had two hits and a run scored for the Golden Knights.
  • All 10 hits in the game were singles.
  • Skidmore's three runs came in the second inning, highlighted by a two-RBI base hit down the right field line by senior Bernie Berner.
  • Chloe McGonagle, who reached on an error, and Natalie Mayne, who singled, both scored.
  • Sophomore Claire Stone started the second by getting hit by a pitch. She got to second on a sacrifice bunt by Allen and came around to make it 1-0 on a Clarkson throwing error that allowed McGonagle to reach.
  • Clarkson got on the scoreboard in the third when Elissa Uveino scored unearned on a throwing error.
  • Stone and Franchesca Casillas both had hits in the sixth inning but were stranded.
  • The win, which took just 1:05 to play, snapped a six-game losing streak.

  • Skidmore made it 1-0 early when Claire Stone singled in Elle Harrison in the first inning. Harrison reached on a hit-by-pitch.
  • The Golden Knights failed to score in the top of the frame despite singles by each of their first four batters.
  • Clarkson went ahead 2-1 on four hits in the fourth inning with the big blow being a two-run home run by Devin Fitzpatrick.
  • The Thoroughbreds answered with six runs in their half to go in front 7-2.
  • Harrison earned an RBI with another HBP and Bernie Berner, the next batter, did the same to give Skidmore a 3-2 edge.
  • The next two runs came across on wild pitches before a Mallory Allen single scored Berner.
  • Stone made it 7-2 when she scored on an error.
  • Junior Jessica Nachamie, who led off the frame, had two singles in the fourth inning. 
  • A single to right by Berner scored Grace O'Connell to give the home team a six-run cushion.
  • Clarkson scored once in the seventh.
  • Nachamie finished the game by going 3 for 3 with a walk and a run. Berner was 2 for 2 with a walk, a run, and two RBI.
  • Rachel Monser, who earned the win in with a complete game, had two hits, including a double.
  • Emma Sabourin went 3 for 3 with a run and Fitzpatrick drove in all three runs.
  • The teams combined for 21 hits.
