AMHERST, Mass. – The Skidmore College women's tennis team put up a healthy dose of resistance against nationally eighth-ranked Amherst College in the NCAA Tournament Second Round on Saturday afternoon. The Mammoths won, 5-0, with competitive matches throughout.
- Skidmore, ranked 32nd, finishes tied for 17th nationally, with a 13-6 final record.
- Amherst (15-6) will battle second-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday in the Regional Final.
- The Mammoths swept doubles with a pair of narrow wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Konika Dhull and Grace Truong won five games against Friedman/Dounchis.
- In the third match, Katherine Almquist and Beilynn Geiss took Diop/Stechschulte to the wire, but lost 8-6.
- Skidmore was ahead in a pair of singles matches when the full team match was clinched.
- Geiss won the first set, 6-4, and was closing in on a straight-set win as she was ahead 6-5 over Katelyn Hart at No. 6.
- Ella Provost won her first set, 7-5, at No. 4 and had a 4-3 lead in the second.
- Dhull forced a third set with a 6-4 win after getting swept in the first. She was early in the third set against Deliala Friedman in the first match.
- Truong dropped a pair of close sets at No. 2. The win for Amy Cui clinched the match for the Mammoths.
- Skidmore was making its 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The Thoroughbreds have won at least one match in each of the last nine national tournaments.
