TROY, N.Y. - The Skidmore College softball team traveled down the Northway to face No. 18 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Thoroughbreds suffered a pair of losses, 8-0 and 9-3. Skidmore falls to 3-13 overall and 0-2 in the Liberty League, while RPI is now 17-0-1 and 2-0.
Rensselaer 8, Skidmore 0 (6 inn.)
- RPI scored single runs in three of the first four innings and then added two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
- Six of their eight runs were earned.
- The Thoroughbreds had four hits from four different players.
- Right fielder Rachel Monser had a double while three others had singles.
- The best chance for the visitors to score came in the third inning when Cortney Somsky walked and Claire Stone singled with one out. They were moved over on a sacrifice bunt by Grace O'Connell, but they were ultimately stranded.
- Madi Gambino started for Skidmore and she went 4.1 innings before being relieved by Natalie Mayne.
- Brooke Sroczinski threw all 7.0 innings for the Engineers, allowing one walk with five strikeouts.
- Callista Adorno was 4 for 4 with two runs and two RBI for RPI.
Rensselaer 9, Skidmore 3
- RPI took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the second inning and then doubled its margin with two more in the third.
- Skidmore got three of the runs back in the fourth when shortstop Claire Stone doubled to left field to plate all three runners who were on base.Â
- With two outs, Mallory Allen singled before Hailey Clarke reached on an error by the shortstop. Sophia Finch walked to load the bases to set up Stone's drive.
- The Engineers came back with five runs on six hits and an error in their half of the fourth inning for a 9-3 lead.
- The Thoroughbreds had five hits from five different players in the game. Stone's double was the only extra base hit.
- Clarke started and went 4.0 innings before Natalie Mayne took over in the circle. They both registered one strikeout.
- Six of the nine runs Skidmore allowed were earned.
- Alexis Cooke pitched 4.0 innings and Ava Markert threw 3.0 for RPI. They combined to strike out seven.
- Three players had two hits apiece for the Engineers.
