SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Skidmore College announced that Kyle Lancto has been promoted to Associate Director, Athletic Communications and Marketing. Lancto takes over for Bill Jones who retires March 11 after 40 years.
Â
"We are excited to promote Kyle," said Gail Cummings-Danson, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Athletics Director. "This is a well-deserved promotion for someone who has put in countless hours marketing Skidmore Athletics during his 2.5 years of working with our programs.
Â
"His commitment, creativity and dedication to publicizing and announcing the great work of our student-athletes, coaches and teams has been much appreciated. I am glad that we can acknowledge and celebrate Kyle's outstanding contributions to Skidmore with this promotion."
Â
Lancto was named Skidmore College Athletics Marketing and Communications Manager in September of 2021. Prior to Skidmore, he was an athletic communications graduate assistant at Vermont State University Castleton. He began his career as a sports information intern at SUNY Cortland, while an undergraduate.
Â
"Kyle has excelled since day one," said Julia Marco, Director of Marketing and Engagement. "His arrival coincided with the return to competition after a long COVID-19 pause, and he immediately got to work taking on everything he could to re-engage our fans and support our coaches and athletes. From launching media days for every team and introducing tools like Boxout to the many hours dedicated to the enormous task of supporting the needs of both OCM and all 19 varsity teams, Kyle's career here thus far has set a high bar for quality, accountability, sweat equity, and fortitude.
Â
"But beyond the work itself, it's his character – the environment he creates by leading with kindness, empathy, and care – that made this promotion an honor to offer. And I'm immensely proud that Kyle has been enthusiastically endorsed by our partners in Athletics."
Â
The Rotterdam native is excited to continue at Skidmore in his new role.
Â
"I am honored and exceedingly excited to take this next step in my career at Skidmore, Lancto said. "Ever since I stepped on campus, this place has felt like home and I am overjoyed and humbled to be gifted the responsibility bestowed in this role.Â
Â
"I would like to sincerely thank a few of the many people that have helped me throughout my career. To Fran Elia – thank you for getting me hooked, and for showing me what a true pro looks like. To Jeff Weld – thank you for taking a shot on me and for cheering me on ever since. To Tom Blake – thank you for teaching me everything I thought I already knew when you got me. And to Bill Jones – thank you for keeping me grounded. For the laughs. The stories. The friendship. I'll cherish our time working side by side forever.
Â
"Skidmore is an incredible place full of otherworldly talent and a long history of tradition and success. The College has empowered me to develop immensely in my journey here so far, and I am thankful for the opportunity to continue to tell the story of Skidmore College Athletics."
Â
Lancto's promotion is effective immediately and he will coordinate a search for an assistant director to fill his vacant position.
