Skidmore softball hopping back in the saddle for fresh season

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.  – The Skidmore College softball team will kick off its 2024 season with 10 games in six days in Central Florida at THE Spring Games March 10-15. The Thoroughbreds will open on the morning of Sunday, March 10 with games against University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and Kean University.

Skidmore went 10-23 last season with a 3-11 mark in the Liberty League. The Thoroughbreds triumphed in league games at home against St. Lawrence (4/6) and Union (4/21) as well as a road win at RIT (4/29).

Second-year head coach Liz Neubinski has a roster of 18 this spring featuring 11 returners and seven newcomers. In all, 13 out of the 18 players on the roster are first-years or sophomores.

"We are proud of all the great work this group has done so far and am looking forward to seeing them put all that together this season," Neubinski said. "We return a great group, and it has been great to see them step into leadership roles and continue to grow as players.

"Having seven first years brings a lot of energy and youth, and we can't wait to see the impact they have this year and beyond."

Skidmore hit .292 as a team in 2023 with a .741 team OPS. The Thoroughbreds scored 4.58 runs per game with a team fielding percentage of .937. Skidmore pitchers pitched to a 4.33 ERA.

After returning north, the Thoroughbreds will open at home against Westfield State on Wednesday, March 20 and will host Oneonta three days later. Skidmore's Liberty League opener is slated for Saturday, April 6 on the road at Rensselaer.

Skidmore will host league doubleheaders against University of Rochester (4/19), RIT (4/20), and Clarkson University (5/4).

Five teams make the postseason. The five-team tournament, including the 4v5 play-in game, will take play May 9-11 on the campus of the #1 seed.

"We have a special group of people this year and we can't wait to see how the season unfolds."
