Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Liberty League epic goes to Skidmore; Thoroughbreds down Bombers 66-62 in OT to advance to title game

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Andi Levitz banked a long 3-pointer with 15.7 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and the Skidmore College women's basketball team outscored visiting Ithaca College 9-5 in the extra session to walk away with a 66-62 Liberty League Semifinal win on Friday evening. Skidmore will play for its second consecutive conference title on Sunday against top-seeded and nationally 23rd-ranked Vassar.

  • Skidmore (22-4) saw its lead, which existed for most of the night until that point, evaporate when it went without a field goal for over seven minutes into the middle of the fourth quarter. Ithaca's lead was six when Madison Meyer broke the schneid with a mid-range jumper with 5:41 remaining on the clock.
  • It started a streak of three Skidmore makes into a row, capped by Levitz's first of two deep bombs that gave Skidmore a 52-51 lead with 4:14 left.
  • Neither team scored over the next 2:32 until buckets were traded at around the one-minute mark. Ithaca (21-6) took a two-point lead on a Hannah Polce layup with 55 tics left.
  • Zoraida Icabalceta made both of her foul shots for the Bombers after a Skidmore miss with 26 seconds remaining for a three-point Ithaca lead.
  • Out of a Skidmore timeout, Maddie Hastings tracked down an offensive rebound and found Levitz open for heave from just a step inside the Thoroughbred logo at mid-court for the tie.
  • Ithaca had a look for the win, but a Junie Dickson jumper clanked out as the clock expired in regulation.
  • Both teams scored just one basket in the first 2:23 of overtime.
  • Julia Blanck put Skidmore back ahead on a drive to the basket off a Levitz feed with 1:37 to go. She scored despite getting fouled but was unable to complete the 3-point play.
  • Hastings later stripped Polce of the ball and Becca Horger went to the line with 26 seconds left for Skidmore. She made both and started a chain of five out of six free throws made by Skidmore to close it out.
  • Icabalceta made it interesting with an off-balance 3-pointer from way out to cut it down to two. Emilija Jakumaite subbed in, got fouled, and made both of her shots for Skidmore to ice it.
  • Skidmore has defeated Ithaca four times in a row starting with last year's championship game.
  • Cassie Davidson led Skidmore in scoring with 16 points. Blanck had 13 with a game high 18 rebounds to record her 13th double-double. Horger finished with nine points.
  • Dickson and Icabalceta both finished with 17 to pace the Bombers.
  • Skidmore rode off with a 19-8 edge in offensive rebounds and turned it into an 18- 4 second-chance point margin.
  • Skidmore's win is its 13th in a row, extending the record.
  • In the other semifinal, Vassar beat Union 64-53 to reach the championship game against defending champion Skidmore.
