ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Skidmore College swimming and diving teams made waves at the Don Richards Invitational on Friday, highlighted by a program-record performance in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay and a pair of individual victories. The team of Faye Mooney, Emily Booth, Gretchen Gwitt, and Kelly Hsu clocked a 1:38.90 to secure second place and set a new Skidmore standard.
Sabrina Reed came out ahead in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:11.76, while Nicolas Sodi won the men's 500 in 4:41.18. Both teams are in second after the first of three sessions at RIT. The women enter day two with 254 points, while the men are at 205.
WOMEN'S EVENTS
- Reed dominated the 500-yard freestyle, earning first place with a time of 5:11.76. MK Booth and Jae Mason also posted top-10 finishes in the event, placing sixth (5:25.98) and seventh (5:26.67), respectively.
- Also, in the 500, Emily Czelusniak was 14th (5:38.35), while Sarah Miller was 15th (5:40.73).
- Hsu led the charge in the 200-yard individual medley, securing second place in 2:11.58. She was closely followed by teammate Gwitt, who finished third in 2:11.71. Ginny Hunt added a strong showing, taking fifth in 2:15.22.
- Skidmore had six in the top 14 of the 200 IM including Katherine Manaresi (12th – 2:15.22), Lydia Walker (13th – 2:21.87), and Julianna Kuznar (14th – 2:23.30).
- Hsu and Mooney also excelled in the 50-yard freestyle, placing third (24.83) and fourth (24.87), respectively. Booth added a ninth-place finish in the sprint, touching the wall in 25.56.
- In the ninth event of the night, the 400-yard medley relay team of Hunt, Mooney, Gwitt, and Hsu finished second after touching in a 4:02.45.
MEN'S EVENTS
- On the men's side, Nicolas Sodi captured first place in the 500-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 4:41.18, edging out the competition from RIT by just 0.01 seconds. Teammates Allen Huseinovic (6th - 4:55.75) and Jonah Vaynshtok (7th - 4:57.37) joined him in the top 10, while Brandon Lis finished 13th in 5:02.73.
- Sodi also led off the 200-yard freestyle relay, which earned a second-place finish (1:26.33), alongside Owen Magoon, Jonah Vaynshtok, and Brendan Lu.
- In the 200-yard individual medley, Ryan Delfico led the Thoroughbreds with a fifth-place finish, clocking 1:57.88. Teammates Thomas Gaughan (14th - 2:02.86) and Liam Keating (16th - 2:03.06) also placed in the top 16.
- Lu added a seventh-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21.72), while Magoon and Gavin Schiavi tied for 11th (22.26). Vaynshtok clocked in the top half with a 14th-place showing in 22.53.
- Delfico, Keating, Lu, and Sodi teamed up to earn a second-place spot in the 400-yard individual medley relay.
- Tomás Ruiz rounded out the night for Skidmore with a score of 310.55 in the 1-meter diving event to place seventh.

- The teams will be back in the water for two sessions on Saturday, the first starting at 9 a.m.
