Skidmore soccer teams to host postseason games Tuesday

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College will host a playoff doubleheader on Tuesday as the first round of the Liberty League Tournament commences. The Thoroughbred men, seeded third, will host sixth-seeded Ithaca at 2:30 p.m. before the fourth-seeded women take on No. 5 RIT at 5 p.m. at Wachenheim Field.

ABOUT SKIDMORE
The Skidmore men's soccer team enters the Liberty League playoffs with a 6-3-6 overall record and a 5-2-2 mark in conference play, securing the third seed. Anchored by junior goalkeeper Will Devall, who leads the league in save percentage and ranks second in goals-against average, Skidmore posted seven shutouts this season, including four in the final five games. Offensively, Colin Goodhines is the team's leading scorer with five goals and an assist, as the Thoroughbreds look to extend their strong defensive form into the postseason. Skidmore is currently ranked #123 in the NCAA NPI Rankings.
 
ABOUT ITHACA
The Ithaca men's soccer team enters the Liberty League playoffs with a 7-7-3 overall record and a 3-4-2 conference finish, securing the sixth seed. Led by a balanced offensive attack, Ithaca has averaged 1.71 goals per game, with top scorer Jared Krasnove pacing the team with five goals and two assists. Jack Carney has five goals and one assist on the year. Defensively, Ithaca has held opponents to one goal or fewer in 10 games this season. Ithaca is currently ranked #168 in the NCAA NPI Rankings.
 
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Ithaca leads the all-time head-to-head series 7-1-6. Two weeks ago, Skidmore won 2-0 on the road at Ithaca breaking the streak of 13 unbeaten by the Bombers against the Thoroughbreds. In the postseason, Ithaca advanced on penalty kicks in the 2021 semifinals and won a 1-0 first-round game in 2018.

The Skidmore College women's soccer team heads into the Liberty League playoffs with a strong 10-2-3 overall record and a 5-2-2 conference finish, earning them a postseason berth. Offensive standout Ella Stone leads the Thoroughbreds with 12 goals, ranking first in the league, and has recorded five game-winning goals across 15 games. On defense, goalkeeper Avery Rogers anchors Skidmore with a .875 save percentage, seven shutouts, and a 0.64 goals-against average, placing her among the top in the league for goalkeeping stats. Skidmore is currently ranked #29 in the NCAA NPI Rankings.
 
ABOUT RIT
The RIT women's soccer team heads into the Liberty League playoffs with an 8-5-4 overall record and a 4-3-2 conference finish, placing them in fifth place. Offensively, the Tigers have been strong, averaging nearly two goals per game in Liberty League play, including a standout 7-0 win over Bard. Elena Onodera and Olivia Harris lead the team in scoring both with seven goals. Defensively, RIT has been anchored by consistent goalkeeping and has allowed one goal or fewer in five of their nine conference games. RIT is currently ranked #70 in the NCAA NPI Rankings.
 
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
RIT has controlled the head-to-head series with a 10-4-3 record over the past 20 years, however each of the past two meetings have ended in ties. Skidmore and RIT tied 2-2 two weeks ago in Saratoga Springs. Stone scored both for Skidmore, while Onodera had both of RIT's. The Thoroughbreds and Tigers last met in the playoffs in 2021: a 2-0 RIT win in Rochester. Skidmore's last win against RIT was back in 2013.
 

NEXT
The winner of Tuesday's games will advance to the semifinals on Friday. The men's winner will go to St. Lawrence, and the women's winner will go to Ithaca.
