Thoroughbreds shutout Bard, 3-0, in regular season finale

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – The Skidmore College women's soccer team wrapped up a stellar regular season by clinching home field advantage in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament after cruising to the 3-0 shutout victory over Bard on Saturday afternoon.

Led by a trio of goal scorers, the Thoroughbreds (10-2-3, 5-2-2 Liberty League) outshot the Raptors (3-13-1, 0-9-0 Liberty League) by a staggering 27-to-4 final margin en route to the eighth shutout victory of the year to officially lock into the fourth seed of a competitive conference playoff seeding race.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior star Ella Stone scored her conference-leading 12th goal of the season in just the tenth minute of the game after beating both Bard's goalie alongside another defender with a high arching shot. Fellow senior Kyra Russman-Araya made the initial entry pass to set up the score.
  • In the opening minutes of the second half, in the 48th, junior Mikayla Dorrer found the back of the net after getting her foot on the ball in front of a crowded goal after an initial blocked Molly Cunningham shot and making a shifty move to tap the ball in for the insurance score.
  • The Thoroughbreds put the finishing touches to the victory in the 63rd minute on a deep shot from outside the penalty box from sophomore Hannah Fetzer, who booted the ball past the reach of the Raptors goalie. Fellow sophomore Ellianna Caporusso made the initial downfield pass in transition to start the scoring sequence.
